There are numerous others in the greater Kings Mountain area with disabilities of handicaps. There is much needed assistance available for us through this community and various organizations. Our Mayor has taken a great step toward helping us by associating Kings Mountain with the national office on disability, participating in the National Year of Disabled Persons community partnership pro- gram. Formation of a community partnership program with Ms. Teresa Melton as official community liason will greatly enhance the success of the program by utilizing present resources and development of new ones. The success of any program depends on those it’s designed to help. If you are disabled or know someone who is, I sincerely urge you to at- tend the meeting to be held Monday, June 7, at 7 p.m. Depot Center. The committee is to be formed of leaders from all fields but most im- portantly from the disabled. The first helping hand must come from we, the disabled and han- dicapped. Please attend, it’s your input that’s required to have an effec- tive program. Monday June 7, at 7 p.m. Depot Center. Transportation problem, call me 739-5938. Making Stand To the editor: The time has come to make a stand. Having considered the inroads as well as the curves and the danger signs, and political risks involved, I’ve been considering filing as a can- didate for the office of mayor of our distinguished and historical city. Considering the proper clout of financial backers for this political venture is becoming more interesting, as well as intriguing, by the mo- ment. - I believe with the insight as well as to the people at the moment, that change is a must. The mood is right! The citizens have been dealt a blow below the belt. So much has been taken from Peter to repay Paul by the present ad- ministration, in its wheeling and dealing, from outside as well as inside; protecting the “haves” and taking from the “have nots.” Hopefully, within the very near future, just prior to the next city election, substantial information will be fortcoming, as well as data, as to where and how much of the city’s involved in its shennannigans of misusing its trust of managing the affairs of the citizens at large. Should I decide to file for office, I will be “frank to earnest”, as well as honest enough to not want the office to get all I can get and get out at the expense of honest and law-abiding citizens; of which seemingly the proceedure and trend has been for a number of years within our ci- ty. See you There, So look forward to new contenders for the mayors race. C. Ross Baumgardner Everette Pearson Service Set at the Post Home. Mrs. Davis is serving as state Vice President and membership chairman. She will be installed as the state leader of the 11,000 member organization in late June in Fayetteville. Barrett and Mrs. Helen Yates will conduct a memorial service honoring three deceased members, Mrs. Merle Beatty, Mrs. Louise Roberts Jol- ly, and Mrs. Ola Mae Wray. Mrs. Myrtle Christenson, unit president, will conduct business of the meeting. New officers of Unit 155 are Mrs. Christenson, re-elected president; Mrs. Ruth Ruff, vice president and membership chair- man; Mrs. Daisy McCurry, vice president; Mrs. Ruth Gamble, re-elected recording secretary; Mrs. Arlene Barrett, re-elected corresponding secretary and treasurer; Miss Lib Stewart, re- elected, historian; Mrs. Helen Y ates, chaplain; and Mrs. Clara Rhea, sergeant-at-arms.
