June 3, 1982-KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Page SA Douglas Arthurs Graduates Law School Douglas Paul Arthurs, a 1972 graduate of Cherryville High School, was among 173 graduates receiving their juris doctorate degrees from Wake Forest University School of Law on May 17. He was one of three students to receive their degrees magna cum laude, the highest distinction conferred on graduates of the School of Law. In order to graduate magna cum laude a student must maintain an A average during his three years of study. During his three years at Wake Forest Law School, Ar- thurs received several scholastic honors. Each of his six semesters he was included on the Scholastic Honors List, an honor conferred on the top ten percent of each class for the semester. Doug received the American Jurisprudence Prize in four courses: Real Property, Civil Procedure I, Domestic Rela- tions, and Remedies. The American Jurisprudence Prize is a book award given to the stu- dent attaining the highest grade in each of twenty selected courses. He was also selected as a Legal Bibliography teaching assistant. Legal Bibliography is a research and writing course re- quired for all first year students. In addition to his scholastic success, Arthurs was a member of a number of law school organizations. He was elected as a second year representative to the Student Bar Association, the law school equivalent of a stu- dent government association. He was also selected as a member of the Moot Court Board and the Wake Forest Law Review. The Moot Court Board is an organization that concentrates on appellate advocacy skills. Membership in this organization is based on demonstrated ex- cellence in brief writing and oral argument. The Wake Forest Law Review is a legal magazine published by student editors and staff members six times a year. This publication is placed in the library of nearly every law school in the country as a research tool for practicing at- torneys. Membership on the Law Review is offered to the top ten percent of each class after the first year of law school and to an additional ten percent of the class who demonstrate outstanding legal writing ability in a writing contest held during the summer between the first and second years of law school. While a member of the Wake Forest Law Review Doug wrote and had published two legal casenotes: The Preemptive Pro- vision As A Valid Restraint On Alienation, 17 Wake Forest Law Review 682 (1981) and Spousal Testimony In Criminal Pro- ceedings, 17 Wake Forest Law Review 990 (1981). Arthurs received his A.A. degree in Liberal Arts from Gaston College in December 1976. He then received his B.A. degree in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in May of 1978. Upon successful completion of the North Carolina Bar Ex- amination in July, he will join the law firm of Hollowell, Stott, Hollowell, Palmer & Windham in Gastonia as an associate. Arthurs is married to the former Janet Boggs of Cher- ryville and they have two children, Jennifer, age 5, and Jason, age 1. He is the son of Ms. Shirley Allen of Cherryville and J.L. Arthurs of Kings Mountain. Library Notes By MaryJane Carbo Some things you might not know about the Mauney Memorial Library: 1. Job listings.
