Mrs. Marlyn Sugg of Albemarle, president of the Stanley County Chapter, spoke to the Commis- sion. She said that another chapter is operating in Rich- mond County, and that 23 others are in various stages of be- ing organized. The Commission also preview- ed a new slide show-DUI Killers, Time for Action—-which will soon be available for public showing. Floyd E. Three Cleveland students completed the semester with straight A averages. They were Janice Marie Scoggins, Kings Mountain, a sophomore; Robin Lynn Cabaniss, Shelby, a senior; and Denis A. Haskins, Shelby, a senior. Other Kings Mountain students making the Chancellor’s List were Debra Mari Armstrong, a senior; Cathy Lee McDaniel, a junior; Pamela Jeanette Oates, a junior; Shelia Ethelen Ramey, a senior; and Shirley Roberson, a senior. For the past three years she has been Coordinator of Excep- tional Children’s Programs in Kings Mountain District Schools. During this time several changes have occured in the pro- gram. Programs for the ‘ Academically Talented have been established in grades K-9, and a Summer Enrichment Pro- gram has been provided for grades 4-9. A model program, Secondary Learning Disabilities, was adopted at Central School, Kings Mountain Junior High School, Senior High School. Educational diagnosticians were added to and Kings Mountain, provide assistance in testing all exceptional children. A process for organizing student records and coordination consisted of a consistent referral to placement process were implemented. Ms. Shields provided a variety of workshops for teachers and has actively involved parents in Pro- grams for Exceptional Children. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Russell Cabe, Ms. Shields is a native of Franklin, North Carolina.
