Page 6A-KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Thursday., November 25, 1982 HEART BOARD MEETS - The Gaston County Heart Board held its November meeting recently with Dr. James Forrester, center, as special guest. Board members, left to right, in- Forrester Speaks To Board Dr. James Forrester, the new county commissioner of River- side Township, spoke to the Junior Heart Board’s November meeting at Gaston College’s Myers Center. Forrester, past president of the Heart Associa- tion, has served two teams on the State Heart Board, as well as serving Stanley in Family Prac- tice. He and his wife, Mary Frances, have four children. The topic for the meeting was “The Risk Factors of Heart Disease.” Although we have no control over some factors, heart disease will claim the lives of two to three million people across the country this year. Some factors, however, can be controlled, such as: elevated cholesterol intake, obesity, cigarette smoking, high blood pressure, stress, and ten- sion. Dr. Forrester also stressed that when we combine the “fac- tors,” we increase the chances of heart disease by ten. The Junior Heart Board meets the second Monday of each month. KM Parents Visit Wingate Mr. and Mrs. Roy D. Jackson, W. Elm Street.; Helen Darnell, Route 1; Mr. and Mrs. Hollis L. Lowery, Meadowood Lane; and Mr. and Mrs Lewis Cantrell, Kenwood Driver, all of Shelby, were among more then 400 parents, relatives, and friends who attended the recent Parents’ Day activities at Wingate Col- lege. Also attending were Mr. and Mrs. James S. Cline and Mary Cline of Fallston and Donald and Geneva Blood, Route 5, Kings Mountain. In addition to the many atten- ding from North Carolina, parents came from as far away as Texas, New Jersey, and Ohio, as well as from Maryland, Virginia, and Sullivan’s Island, South Carolina. They spent the day touring the campus, meeting faculty members, and being entertained by a wide variety of spectator and participant ac- tivities. New And Used Toys Needed For Christmas The Cleveland County Head Start program is seeking dona- tions of new or used toys for enrolled Head Start children for Christmas. The program currently serves 140 children throughout the county. At least 90° of these children must families whose income is below the federal poverty guidelines. He has been in the ministry since 1946 and has serv- ed full-time as a pastor since he retired from teaching school. He also serves as President of the Cleveland County Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored Peo- ple. He has held that position for the past eight years. He recently participated in the North Carolina State Branch of the NAACP meeting and has made several trips to the Nation’s Capitol to influence legislation for the improvement of poor and disadvantaged people. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Mauney Memorial Library, is a member of the Kings Mountain Housing Authority, a member of the City of Kings Mountain Board of Elections, Second Vice-President of the Cleveland County Democratic Party, was an Alter- nate Delegate to the Democratic When extra ice cubes are needed for punches, or ice buckets at parties, use muf- fin tins instead of buying new ice cube trays.
