BELMONT-Three new academic programs have been added to the curriculum at Bel- mont Abbey College. New ma- _jors in computer information science, pre-engineering, and ~ philosophy will be available at ~ the four-year, liberal arts college at) 3 3 SA RRS ay ES next fall. “Our programs in computer science and pre-engineering pro- vide excellent career prospects for our students,” said College president Dr. John R. Dempsey, “and ensure the Abbey’s place in the forefront of the technological revolution which is changing the intellectual and industrial “© landscape of America.” Science Belmont Abbey Col- lege is a liberal arts college, these programs include study in the humanities, the social and behavioral sciences, and the Coppe’lia Ballet Set Friday, Saturday At ‘Gaston i = riod fe p - “ DALLAS. ‘The Fine Es Council of Gaston College will present Gaston Dance Theatre performing the ballet of Coppe’lia. The ballet will be presented in the Myers Center Auditorium on Friday and Saturday, March 25 and 26 at 8:15 p.m. Coppe’lia is a comic ballet in three acts with music by Leo Delibes.. The book, written by Charlies Nuitter and Arthur Saint Leon, was first presented in ballet in the Theatre Imperial de I’ Opera in Paris in 1870. The first performance in the United States was at the Metropolitian Opera House in 1887. Beautiful musical scores and intriguing story make Coppe’lia a very interesting and- beautiful ballet. The most familiar musical selections from the ballet are: “Swanilda’s Waltz,” “The Mazurka,” and “The Ozardas” all from the first act. Also a - favorite, is “The Waltz of the hours” (“Wedding Waltz”) from the third act. Pat Wall is the Artistic Direc- tor of Gaston Dance Theatre. She holds a BCA degree in dance from UNC-Charlotte and a Masters Degree from the DEA a Borchers. Training School in New. York City. ‘Stuart Dunsmore will portray Dr. Coppelius. He was a dancer with the Jordan Ballet Com- pany, Ballet Concerts of New York, and the Radio City Corps de Ballet. Dunsmore has a degree in dance from Butler University and a degree in Educational Theatre from New York University. He is on the faculty at Gaston College. Advance ticket sales will be available at On Stage in downtown Gastonia and at the Public Information Office at Gaston College. A limited number of tickets are available for the Friday and Saturday per- formances. When purchasing tickets, please indicate your preference of performance date. Tickets purchases for Friday or Saturday must be used on the specified day. Admission is $2.50 for all seats. The production is funded in part by the Grass Roots Arts Program of the North Carolina Arts Council, a state agency. The public is cordially invited to attend the performance. The program in computer in- formation science is designed to produce graduates who have the technical skills to qualify for and be productive in entry-level pro- gramming/analysis jobs, and with the systems and business knowledge to advance along career paths normally open to business computer specialists. Belmont Abbey’s pre- engineering program is a 3-2 degree double program. Studen- ta will attend Belmont Abbey College for three years and then transfer to an affiliated engineer- ing school to complete the re- maining two years of study. Upon completion of the pro- gram, the student will receive a ‘bachelor of arts degree in liberal studies from Belmont Abbey College and a bachelor of science degree in engineering from the affiliated engineering school. Students who choose to transfer to the University of Notre Dame School of Engineer- ing are guaranteed junior level class standing upon successful completion of the program through a reciprocal agreement between the two colleges.
