Kings Mountain Junior High reported that someone broke a window. Damage was $420. James Boheler of 812 Church Street reported the theft of a bicycle and lawnmower valued at $75. Howard Smith of 800 Marion Kings Mountain police in- vestigated four wrecks during the past week. Cars driven by Jeffrey Cody of Gastonia and, Lewis Donaldson of 350 Midpines col- lided Friday at 3:20 p.m. on Marie Street. Damages were $1,200 to Cody’s 1980 Toyota and $275 to Donaldson’s 1968 Chevrolet. A car driven by Mary Yarbro of 1104 West Gold struck a utili- ty pole Saturday at 12:20 p.m. at DEATHS FRANCES WATTERSON Frances Mercer Watterson, 84, of 1106 Linwood Road, died Wed., May 25 at Kings Moun- tain Convalescent Center. A Kings Mountain native, she was the daughter of the late Robert L. and Susan McGill Mercer. She was married to the late William Lester Watterson Sr. and was a member of Boyce Memorial A.R.P. Church. She is survived by three sons, Wl. Watterson Jr. of Spartan- burg, S.C., Ersten Watterson of Kings Mountain and G.R. “Bob- by” Watterson of Caruthersville, Mo.; a daughter, Mrs. James White of Rock Hill, S.C; a brother, Thomas Mercer of Kings Mountain; a sister, Mrs. George W., Mauney of Kings Mountain; eight grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Services were conducted Fri- day at 4 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. William Tyson. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. RONALD WHELCHEL BLACKSBURG, S.C. - Ronald Carlton Whelchel, 30; of Route 3, died Thurday at Cherokee County Memorial Hospital. A construction worker, he was the son of Jack H. and Dorothy Isler Whelchel. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Kathie Ledford of Grover, and Mrs. Debbie Harrison of Blacksburg; and his maternal gradnmother, Mrs. Lian Isler of Blacksburg. Services were conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Ver- non Moore, the Rev. Grady Gregory and the Rev. Charles Harrison. Burial was in Cl. ingman Memorial Gardens. CLINE BARBER Cline Barber, 88, of 913 Grover Road, died Saturday at Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of Cleveland Coun- ty, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Beattie G. Barber. He was a retired clerk for Southern Railroad and a veteran of World War I. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He is survived by one sister, Ethel Yarbrough of Kings Mountain. Services were conducted Mon- day at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church by the Rev. Joel Jenkins and the Rev. J.C. Goare. Burial was in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery. ELISHA RODGERS Elisha Rodgers,61, of 216 McGill Court, died Monday at his home. A native of Lee County, S.C., he was the son of the late Gremme and Cleo Holmes Rodgers. He was a veteran of World War II. He is survived by a daughter, Ann Rodgers of Washington, D.C; a sister, Mrs. Mildred Smith of Grover; and a grand- daughter. Services will be conducted Thursday at 4 p.m. at Good Hope Presbyterian Church by the Rev. S. Alexandr and the Rev. J.E. Floyd. Burial will be in the St. Peter’s Cemetery. The family received friends Wednesday from 7-8:30 p.m. at the church. Street reported the theft of a lawnmower valued at $200. Cars driven by William Morgan of Route 5 and Sonia Skinner of Shelby collided Mon- day at 11:30 a.m. at Gold and Diane Hollifield of 807 Hillside Drive reported the theft of two bicycles valued at $340. Jim McGinnis of 814 First Street reported that someone broke into his storage building and stole a wheelbarrow and weedeater. Total value was $209.
