Ch MRS. JOHN ERIC ELLIOTT (Laura Kathryn Alexander) Alexander-Elliott Vows Exchanged In Gastonia Laura Kathryn Alexander and John Eric Elliott were married Saturday, August 20, at the Presbyterian Church in Gastonia in a 7 p.m. ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Irwin Alexander of Gastonia. Parents of the groom are Mr. and Mrs. David Ray Elliott, also of Gastonia. The bride was given in marriage by her father. Officiating clergyman was Dr. James Gordon Stuart. A pro- gram of wedding music was presented by John Robert Siler, III, organist; Ted Randall Ed- dings, Trumpeter; the sanctuary choir; and Margaret Lapsley Walton, carillonneur. Maid of Honor was Terry Elaine Brake of Battleboro; Matron of Honor was Linda Ferreira Ferrell _ of _ Charlotte. Bridesmaids were Amy Sue Elliott and Elisa Ellen Elliott, sisters of the groom; Karen Suzanne Craig, and Susan Lor- raine Wilson of Gastonia. Also, Jeana Lynn Foard and Kimberly Ann White of Charlotte. Child attendants were Paige Bille Foard and Jill Marie Foard of Charlotte. David Ray Elliott was his son’s best man. Groomsmen in- cluded Souheil Anthony Azar of Charlotte, Blon Dean Brown, Jr., John Edward Chesser, Jr., Duane Harvey Eveleigh, Bryan Hugh Harrelson, Larry Nelson Lamber, John William Mc Ree of Gastonia and Jeffrey Dale Hoffman of Winston-Salem. A graduate of Hunter Huss High School, where she was valedictorian, Miss Hunter Huss and drum major, Laura graduated summa cum laude from the School of Journalism at the University of North Carolina. At UNC she was a Morehead Scholar, a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the Marching Carolines flag crops and the Dai- ly Tar Heel staff, and was Presi- dent of the Society of Proffes- sional Journalists. A former Miss Gastonia and Miss Charlotte- Mecklenburg, she also was a Miss Teenage Charlotte and a finalist in the Miss Teenage America pageant. She has been employed in the Corporate Com- munications Department of Duke Power Company, Charlotte, and serves on the Charlotte Chamber of Com- merce Uptown Calendar Com- mittee, the United Way Informa- tion Committee, and as a volunteer tutor at Lincoln Heights Elementary School. The son of Mr. and Mrs. David Ray Elliott of Gastonia, the bridegroom graduated from Ashbrook High School, where he was valedictorian and senior class president. Also a Morehead Scholar at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, He graduated summa cum laude in history. He was also a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the Campus YMCA advisory board and “Walk for Humanity” commit- tee, the marching Tarheel Band and was a North Carolina Fellow. She has assisted with the Red Cross bloodmobile. Miss Wright is the daughter of Mrs. George L. Wright of Route 2, Kings Mountain, and the late Mr. Wright. She plans to pursue a career in business. At KMHS, she is active in the Beta Club, National Honor Society, cheerleading, tennis, chorus, SPO, French Club, FCA, band and powder puff football. She was a Top Ten var- sity cheerleader, attended the Mars Hill Choral Clinic, All- State Choral Clinic and Math Contest at UNC-Greensboro. She was on the Junior-Senior steering committee and is a member of the Pep Club. Miss McCoy is the daughter of Quint and Nancy McCoy of Grover. She works part-time at Medi-Fare Drug Center in Blacksburg. She hopes to become a pediatrician.
