Chris suffered a broken leg in a bicycle fall and turned against Christmas until Mr. Goodguy made him see the light. West Students Present WSs West School’s second PTO meeting of the year Monday night featured a musical drama “Sixth Grade Scrooge.” Under the direction of music teacher, Mrs. Shirley Austin, and classroom teachers: Mrs. Ann Rudisill, Mrs. Juanita Lutz, Mrs. Garnell Bailey, Mrs. Clara Jackson, Mrs. Jackie Hope and Miss Karen Burton, the third, fourth and fifth grade students presented a program to parents and friends of the school. The leading role of David played by Chris Bridges was the focal point of the Christmas story. David, a teenager who is involved in a bike accident and breaks his foot becomes discontented and negative in at- titude because his parents (Karen Bolin and Mathew Bunch) ground him for his misbehavior. The musical drama progresses with a solo “Bah, Humbug!” from David. His friends Kim (Michelle Taylor), Mary (Elaine Burton), Mike (Tina Nicholson), Jason (Craig Smith), and Susan (Susan Hendricks) try to cheer him up. David and his friends are preparing a play with the help of Mrs. Hearting (Susie Hardin), when yet another acci- dent occurs. Davis is hit by a piece of stage scenery and knock- ed unconscious. During this time David dreams several dreams and 1s visited in his dreams by Mr. Badguy (Emily Campbell) who sings a cynical solo “Who Needs Love.” He is also visited in his dreams by Mr. Robert Goodguy (Allen Johnson) who Photo by Gary Stewart HEAD START PROGRAM - Children in the Head Start class at West School had a special treat at its Christmas party Monday. Ventriloquist Donna Daniels of Charlotte and her dum- my, Timothy, visited and talked to the class. Afterward, the children held Timothy and en- joyed Christmas treats which Ms. Daniels brought. Penny Biddix is teacher of the class, which began in November. Thursday, December 15, 1983-KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Page 13A tells David the true meaning of Christmas and sings “What is the Meaning of Christmas.” Mr. Goodguy takes David on a trip to visit Mary (Maria Cable) and Joseph (Webb Ferguson) and the baby Jesus in Jerusalem. As Mr. Goodguy leaves David's dream another character his friend Kim enters and reminds David of the wonder and happiness of Christmas by singing “In the Middle of the Night.” After the chorus (third, fourth, and fifth grades) sing “Silent Night,” David awakens from his dream and finds he has been in a coma. He relates the true meaning of Christmas to his friends and he asks his parents’ forgiveness for disobeying them. The happiness of the occasion is sung in “God Must Be Happy Tonight,” and the finale “I Can Feel the Christmas Spirit.” At the conclusion of the pro- gram the P.T.O. presented Mrs. Austin with a poinsettia. Members of the chorus were: FIFTH GRADERS - Kevin Bess, Christopher Bolin, Kevin Cooke, Chandar Epps, Donna Frazier, Jamie Grigg, Angeline Guinn, Roger Hann, April Han- non, Andy Hollifield, Freddie Moore, Tripp Morrow, Tracy Murphrey, Alex Nolen, Noi Ouaneoudone, Betty Penn- ington, Roy Pennington, Hong Sourisoud, Crystal Headrick, Boutsaba Sourisoud, Jonathan Bolt, Brian Cloninger, Missy Cooper, Andrew Fulton, Erik Hanks, Susie Kiser, Mary Led- ford, Lori Martin, Jeffrey Melton, Somphet Sonivichit, Souli Sourisoud, Roy Stamper, Jason Tignor, Allison Ware, Shawn Wease, Brandon White, Third Graders Trim Holiday Trees Third graders at West School have enjoyed a special Christmas project in connection with their study of foreign countries and customs. The children in Mrs. Ann STUDENTS TRIM TREE-West School students trimmed trees during their study recently of “Christmas Around The World.” The trees PHOTO BY LIB STEWART represented the countries the young people talked about and decorations typical of these countries were used. Rudisill’s class have handmade decorations for five Christmas trees and dressed them in finery of the countries of Germany, France, England, Sweden and Japan. Assistant teacher Cheryl Smith led the 26 students in the project. The Germany tree is decorated with wooden toys, gingerbread cookies, nuts and candies. The tree from France is decorated in colored stars, toy soldiers, dolls and candy and fruit. The tree from England is decorated with British crowns, angels, tiny packages, and baskets and cornucopias filled with fruits and flowers. The tree from Sweden is decorated with the national flags, bird nests and toys. The tree from Japan is decorated with Japanese dolls, lanterns, fans and tiny Christmas cards. Miss Smith said the class had enjoyed making the ornaments and trimming the trees which are on display in the school cafeteria.
