Page 4A-KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Thursday, December 15, 1983 The Clubs Grabarek To Speak At Rotary Thursday The Kings Mountain Rotary Club will host as guest speaker on Thursday, Robert W. Grabarek, Jr., Trainmaster of Southern Railway for the region embracing Kings Mountain. In addition to supervising train operations in this area, Grabarek 1s responsible for the railway safety program for his district and has a considerable profes- sional background. A graduate engineer from Y ale University, he has served in various management positions with Southern Railway since 1968. His previous assignments included Safety Superintendent in Mississippi and South Carolina, Track Supervisor In Ohio, and Trainmaster at Chamblee, Georgia. Rotarians Celebrate Anniversary The Kings Mountain Rotary Club celebrated its 25th anniver- sary December 1 at Kelly’s Steak House in Blacksburg, S.C. The club was chartered on December 15, 1958. Among those attending was the District Governor of Rotary, Don MacKay of Charlotte. Wilson Griffin and Tom Trott were recognized as the two re- maining charter members of the club. Trott was given a special award for 25 years of perfect at- tendance. The club named its three an- nual scholarships in memory of Wilson Griffin and Tom Trott, and in memory of Ben ‘Moomaw. Charles. Mauney » was !recognized; ‘as, a Paul Harris "Fellow, which is the highest honor a Rotarian can achieve. LINWOOD PRODUCE R.W. GRABAREK, JR. A native of Durham, North Carolina, quartered in Spartanburg, South Carolina where he resides with A Grabarek his wife and family. In addition to his duties with Southern, he 1s an active rail hobbyist and a member of the National Railway Historical Society. His program, illustrated by a film on Southern’s operations, will include new developments as a result of the recent merger with Norfolk and Western and should be of considerable in- terest with the Kings Mountain area having a number of active and potential freight customers. The program will be presented during the regular weekly Rotary meeting held at 12:00 noon at the Kings Mountain Holiday Inn. Grabarek will be introduced by Park Superinten- dent Mike Loveless who provid- ed arrangements for the pro- gram. Hullender. Hullender led his team with a 126 line and 341 series. In another match, John Dill- ing rolled a 132 line and 376 set to lead his team to three wins over Betty Hullender. Mrs. Hullender led her group with a 139-359 and Charity Tignor add- ed a 123315. In action last week, Betty Hullender won three of four games from Dye and R.W. Hullender split four with Dilling. Betty Hullender’s 129 line adn 359 set were high marks for her bowlers. Dye was the scoring leader for the match with a 147 and 374. Dilling gained high scoring honors for the night even though his team had to settle for a split. He rolled a 153 line and 389 set. But not far behind was Hullender with a 150 line and 387 series. Guyton Top Scorer In Bowling Dewitt Guyton had the pins flying in church league bowling action Thurday night at the Dill- ing Heating Lanes. He rolled a 159 line and 408 series to lead his team to four wins over Jerry Blanton. Allen Myers topped the losers with a 97 line and Jerry Blanton added a 288 set. In another match, Johnny Reavis scored a 128 line adn 344 set to lead Mark Dixon’s team to three wins over Danny Dilling. Bo Goforth led the losers with a 138 line and 359 set. DAR Chapter Remembers CC Patients Members of the Colonel Frederick Hambright Chapter, DAR, brought gifts for the pa- tients at the Kings Mountain Convalescent Center, to their Christmas meeting at the home of Mrs. Marguerite Plonk on December 7. The fourteen members present took their gifts to the Center and visited patients after the meeting. Mrs. Plonk served punch and cookies after the guests arrived. Mrs. Hilda Goforth, Vice- Regent, presided in the absence of the regent. She opened the meeting with a Christmas story and welcomed: Mrs. Betty Masters as a new member, Mrs. Goforth led the DAR Ritual, followed by the reading of the President Generals Message. Mrs. Tolly Shuford gave the Na- tional Defense News. Mrs. Goforth reported that about $550 worth of old clothes and household items were taken to Crossmore School in November. Mrs. Goforth gave a short _. Christmas program. The meeting then adjourned so that members could go to the Convalescent Home. Sertoma Club Banquet Set The Kings Mountain Sertoma Club’s third annual Service to Mankind Award banquet will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at Hank’s Steak House. Highlight of the fete will be the presentation of the Service to Mankind Award to a deserving Kings Mountain citizen. Previous winners were Rev. Kel- ly Dixon, retired former minister, and Kyle Smith, member of the Kings Mountain School Board. The program will begin about 7:30. KIWANIS CLUB Sandy Brenneman, Director of the Cleveland County Depart- ment of Mental Health, will be guest speaker at Thursday night’s meeting of the Kings Mountain Kiwanis Club at 6:45 p.m. at the Woman's Club.
