The Mountainettes, coached by Bruce Clark, defeated Shelby Monday and Crest Wednesday to win the annual Cleveland County Tournament. They came back home Thursday and whipped R-S Central 15-2 for their first Southwestern 3-A Conference victory. Melanie Herndon was the winning pitcher in both County Tournament games, defeating Shelby 9-2 and Crest 8-0. Melin- da Roberts was the leading hitter in the tourney. Roberts went 4-for4, in- cluding two home runs and a tri- ple, to lead Thursday’s victory over R-S Central. Herndon was the winning pitcher. The KM girls were scheduled to play at Burns Monday. They return home Thursday for a big game against Chase, and host Bessemer City in a non- conference game Friday. Bagwell, of Dixie Trailer Park. and Charles Early were fishing from a boat. Bagwell said the water was “very muddy” and the pair caught three fish with the bass the largest. Hart and Carpenter. el Hg gl Mountainettes Defeat Burns Kings Mountain High's girls softball team continued on its unbeaten trail Monday after- noon with a 16-2 victory over Burns in Southwestern 3-A Con- ference play. The Mountainettes are now 2-0 in the SWC and 8-0 overall. They host Chase Thursday at 4 p.m. in a game that will have a big bearing on the SWC regular season title picture. The KM girls host Bessemer City Friday in a non-conference game. Melanie Herndon hurled the win Monday and was backed by a strong hitting attack. Leigh Anne Odell and Pat Davis led the way with 4-for-5 each and Melinda Roberts added 3-for-5. Major League Tryouts Slated Dixie Youth Major League baseball tryouts will be held Fri- day from 6 to 8 p.m. and Satur- day from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Deal Street ballfield located behind the Community Center. All 11 and 12 year olds who plan to play baseball this sum- mer should attend both sessions. Any other age groups who have not signed up may do so at this time.
