Final Textile Page 8B-KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Thursday, April 18, 1985 Forum Slated Tuesday Night The final forum of Crafted With Pride: Historical Perspectives On The Textile Industry of Gaston County will be held Tuesday evening, April 23, 7:00. p.m., at the Gaston County Public Library. Still on display at the library will be the model of McAdenville, North Carolina, constructed to authentically reproduce the mill village as it was in the 1930s. The guest speaker for the evening will be Dr. Paul Escott, Professor of History at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Dr. Escott has served as the humanities consultant for the project. In his presenta- tion, Gaston County Textiles: A Heritage and Its Future, he will reflect on the significance of the previous forums to textile history in North Carolina and how they might play a role in the future growth and development of Gaston County. Dr. Escott received his Ph.D at Duke University in 1974. Since then he has published three scholarly books: ‘‘After Secession: Jefferson Davis and the Failure of Con- federate Nationalism’, ‘Slavery Remembered: A Record of Twentieth Century Narratives’, which won the Mayflower Cup Award, and (forthcoming), ‘Many Ex- cellent People: Power and Privilege in North Carolina, 1850-1900.” All teachers who are get- ting continuing education credit for participation in any part of Crafted With Pride: Historical Perspectives on the Textile Industry of Gaston County," which in- cludes the forum series, the reading series, or the oral history project, should attend this forum to fill out the necessary forms. Refreshments will be served. Seminar For Nurses At Gaston Memorial For registered nurses, Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia is offering a seminar on the ‘Clinical In- terpretation of Lab Tests’’ on Thursday, April 25, from 8 a.m. until 4:15 p.m. in the hospital auditorium. Registration fee is $30, which includes lunch. Barbee Bancroft, R.N., M.SN., P.N.P., and Ph.D. candidate, will teach this seminar. She is the executive director of a continuing education consultant firm in LaGrange, Illinois, and a nationally-known speaker. For more details and registration information, call the hospital’s learning resource department at 866-2251 during regular business hours. Grounds Dedication Set At Old CC Courthouse From Page 7-B by the 400th committee. In addition, Mr. and Mrs. Rush Hamrick, Jr. assumed ex- penses of the architect and Dr. Emil Gebel contributed 100 acuba plants. Mr. Ogden contributed the Christmas Rose on the north side of the building. Boyte Lutz Nursery was awarded the contract. Two upping stones in the west lawn area date back to 1907 when the courthouse (now Cleveland County Museaum) was built. The up- ing stones were used by adies to mount their horses or carriages. One of the stones remained on the grounds and the other stone was donated by Jack Palmer, Jr. who removed it from the site of the old Courtview Hotel across the street when the property was bought from his family after the hotel was torn down and the Sterchi building built. Palmer felt its proper place in history for the stone would be a companion to the one left there, which is: one of three originally on the grounds. A bronze plaque will identify them. Each county over the state has been asked to sponsor a project in commemorating the landing of the first col- onists (1484) on Roanoke Island. Instead of a festival or other observance, the local committee chose a lasting project and one in which all Clevelanders could share with pride. The public is invited.
