Kenneth George said the purpose of the Open Forum is ‘‘to help develop a better total community. It is the concern of this grop to have open com- munications. with all elected officials to _ enable the City of Kings Mountain to be look- ed at, not as a negative city, but positive in thoughts and actions to see progress not just for certain interest groups but for the less for- tunate as well.” Rev. George said that at the June meeting a copy of the new city budget for 1985-86 will be available and a speaker will be asked to discuss with the group what is legal in an open and closed meeting. Rev. George said he has received guidelines from state officers for conducting of meetings of various elected groups. Some of the questions the group will be ad- dressing at future meetings, according to Rev. George, will include a study of city elec- trical and gas rates and what can be done about Duke Power’s request for an almost 20 percent tax hike and how to help those citizens behind in their monthly utility bills to keep the cash inflow into the city to meet cur- rent expenses promptly. ; “We will be sharing many things in upcom- ing Forums and invite all interested citizens to attend’’, said George. He said meetings of the group would last no longer than 60 minutes. Registration For Jobs To Begin Registration for summer jobs in the Mayor’s Summer Youth Program will get underway Friday morning at 8 a.m. at City Hall. Applications will be received until 5 p.m. Friday, and again on May 17th from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Saturday, May 18th, from 8 to noon. Ruby Alexander and Rev. M.L. Campbell are co-chairing the committee which in- cludes Mrs. W. Eugene McCarter, Mrs. Joel Marable, Jerry King, Nina Oliver, and Mayor John Henry Moss. This is the 17th year that the city has spon- sored a summer work program for area youth and in some cases their summer jobs have allowed the young people to supplement fly income and to return to school in the Fall. Members of the committee will interview interested young people and assist them in obtaining jobs in the community this sum- mer. Mayor Moss said the building trades in- dustry is particularly looking for qualified people this summer and that the committee is interested in hearing from any interested industry or business in need of workers this summer. Several thousand young people have benefited from the summer program over the years, said the Mayor. The Mayor said the program has enjoyed success over the years because of the splen- did cooperation of industry and business in the Kings Mountain area.
