Page 4A-KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Thursday, June 13, 1985 i LONNIE DARNELL Darnell New Intern At First Presbyterian Lonnie Darnell, 27, the new assistant minister at First Presbyterian Church, labels himself an ‘‘army brat” because he traveled all over the world while his father was in Uncle Sam’s Army. Kings Mountain is the “fur- therest place in the South” Darnell says he has visited and the ‘‘transplanted southerner”’ is planning to en- joy 15 months in the com- munity while he completes requirements for a doctorate of ministry from Union Theological Seminary. Last summer Lonnie and his wife, Lisa, and their two sons, Ezra David, who will be four in August, and Ian Daniel, 18 months, lived in Eden, N.C. where Lonnie sup- plied for a church there. He will return for a fourth year at Union Seminary in Fall of 198. & @ X wR » 38 $ g wilfing" Program Set ~ An introduction to the sport of competitive swimming will be offered this summer through the joint efforts of the Kings Mountain Parks and Recreation Department and the Shelby Aquatics Club. The program will include introduction to the strokes that are used in competitive swimming, work-out train- ing, and opportunity to com- pete in summer league meets. Tad . The Darnells have moved into an apartment at Georgetown Apartments and have spent the first week in Kings Mountain decorating the apartment and moving in- to his office at the church. Darnell will fill the pulpit once a month, direct youth activities, and assist in the church visitation program, in addition to serving as assis- tant to the pastor, Dr. Eric Faust. Born in Pennsylvania the son of an Army office, Darnell has lived in various locations, including Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Colorado, and Paria, France and is the only son in a family of seven children. He and his wife met in school in Missouri and since their marriage have liv- ed in Kentucky and Virginia. Lonnie has a bachelor’s degree in Bible and Biblical Language and a Master's degree in ‘Religion’ and Philosophy. He attended Evangel College in Spr- ingfield, Mo. and W. Ken- tucky University and is now a student at Union Theological Seminary. His hobbies are trout fishing and reading. Mrs. Darnell, the former Lisa Wells, was born and reared in Battle Creek, Mich. Her father is a chiropractor and her mother has an Aloe business. Lisa attended Wheaton College in Wheaton, Ill. and Michigan State University and has a B.S. degree in micro-biology. She also spent a summer in Tokyo, Japan as a mis- sionary with the Language Institute for Evangelism (LIFE). Her hobbies include music, singing and playing piano and cooking. Prior to coming to Kings Mountain, Mrs. Darnell was employed as a clinical biologist at a hospital in Richmond, Va. KM Man Faces Drug Charges Police confiscated 10 grams of cocaine and a quarter pound of marijuana and arrested Perry Lee Kilgore, 32, of No. 18 Pine Manor, May 31, according to Det. Billy Benton. Benton said .that Kilgore was charged with four counts of felonious possession of marijuana with intent to sell and felonious possession of cocaine with intent to sell. First - appearance hearing was held for the defendant on June 7th. He remains under $4,000 bond and was bound over to Superior Court. In other Police reports: Effie Wright, 519 Fall- ingwood Drive, reported that she lost some money while shopping at Cornwell Drug Store. Judy Black, 819 Landing St., reported that vandals broke the glass in her front door, doing $50 damage. Debbie Hawkins, 108 Marigold Ave., reported that someone stole a battery, ice chest, sunglasses and casset- tes from her car. Total loss was $300. Cablelink, 311 Childers St., reported that a glass was broken out from the building resulting in $20 damage. Carolina Baskets, 405 Margrace Road, reported that a sharp object was used to cut tires on a company truck doing $300 damage. Sam Lindsey, 208 N. Parker St., reported theft of a gun valued at $125. Wrecks Shawn Greer, 10, of 512 N. Washington St., was serious- ly hurt Saturday when he rode his bicycle into the path of an automobile. The driver was identified as Teresa Jackson, of Route 6, traveling East on Waco Road, at 10:54 a.m. Greer was admitted to Kings Mountain Hospital and transferred to Charlotte Memorial Hospital with head injuries. Kings Mountain Police in- vestigated a second accident during the week which in- volved injuries to a pedestrian. James Raeford Mosier, III, of Gastonia, an employee of Cable TV, was struck Wednesday by a hit-and-run driver who rammed the lad- der that Mosier was standing on and working from on West Gold Street. Jeffrey Moore, of Ohio, operating a 1985 Ford which was damaged $200, struck a 1984 Buick operated by Daniel Lucas of Carthaga, Mo. in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn. The Lucas car was damaged $650. Reginald Cooke, of Kings Mountain, operating a 1972 Mercury which was damaged $200, struck a 1980 Chevrolet operated by Jackie Putnam which was damaged $1,000. The accident occurred June 5th on S. Cansler St. Cecil Pendleton, 509 W.
