- Winn Dixie Increases Dividend For 42nd Year The Board of Directors of Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc. today increased its cash dividend for the 42nd consecutive year, a New York Stock Exchange record. The Board declared a regular monthly dividend of 141, cents per share on the common stock of the com- pany payable on July 31, August 30 and September 30 to shareholders of record at the close of business July 15, August 15, and September 16. The new dividend rate of $1.74 per year represents a 3.6% increase over the previous rate of 14 cents per share per month or $1.68 an- nually. Winn-Dixie, operator of 1,262 food supermarkets throughout the Sunbelt, is one of the few public companies paying its dividends on a monthly basis. Approximate- ly 50% of its full time employees are shareholders. a After only one month of distribution, Rev. Wednesday, July 3, 1985-KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Page 5A M.A. Howard, 97, Dies T uesday LINCOLNTON—McLean Funeral Home in Lincolnton. A. Howard, 97, died Tuesday. A native of Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Banks W. and Nancy Blanton Howard. He was preceeded in death by one brother, five sisters, his wife and one daughter. He was married to the late Neva Keever. He was a rural letter carrier for 29 years and farmed until he was past the age of 82. He was a member of Unity Presbyterian Church of Denver. He is survived by three sons, Myron M. Howard of Denver, Herbert A. Howard of El Paso, Texas and Grady K. Howard of Kings Moun- tain; and six grandchildren. Graveside services will be conducted Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Lincoln County. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Warlick Run In Seventh Inning Gives All-Stars 16-15 Win Team Number One scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to edge Team Number Two 16-15 in T-Ball all-star action Monday night at Commissioners Park. The two teams were scheduled for a rematch Tuesday night. They will close out local all-star action Thursday at 9 a.m. as a part of the city’s July Fourth Celebration. Todd Huntsinger singled and scored on a double by Keith Bryant to give Team Number One the victory. Team Number Two had tied the game at 15-all in the top of the seventh on a three-run homer by Sharee Hopper. Kevin Melton slammed a three-run homer and three doubles to lead the winners at the plate. Huntsinger also had four hits and Timmy Harrelson, Sidney Bridges and Jason Murphy added three each. Brian Lefevers, Michael Bell and Bryant add- ed two hits each. Shawn Gann and Brian Leftwich led Team Number Two with three hits each. Hopper, Nathan Champion, Kenny Bridges, Cameron Falls, Dayne Patterson and Spilker added two hits each. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cancer Fund. Slowpitch Softball Event Slated July 12-14 In KM The Moss Mounties Invita- tional Slowpitch Softball Tournament will be played July 12-14 at Commissioners Park. The one home run hitter tournament is open to all Class C, D and church league teams. Entry fee is $70 and teams must furnish their own ASA-approved softballs. Of- ficial umpires will be used. Twenty-seven trophies will be presented to the first through fourth place teams. Deadline for entering is noon, July 11. Call David Car- roll at 739-2012.
