Page 16A-KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Wednesday, June 11, 1986 KMHS CLASS OF 1976 - The Kings Mountain High School Class of 1976 held its 10th year reu- nion in May at the American Legion building. Earlier in the day, class members and their families enjoyed a picnic at Lake Crawford. Summer School Begins Summer School bells will ring Monday morning at 8:30 a.m. for 120 students involved in a state funded mandatory summer school for grades 3,6, and 8. : Grades 3 and 6 will meet at West School and Grade 8 will meet at the Junior High School. Classes will meet from 8:30 until 11:30 a.m. with a staff of eight teachers and four aides. First priority will be given to those students who scored below the 25th percentile on the California achievement tests which were given in April. Second priority will be given to those students who did not meet local standards and will be retained if they don’t attend summer school. Third priority will be given to those students, who, accor- ding to teachers and prin- cipals, need additional remediation. Transportation will be pro- ‘vided for students. Pay Included In Budget Grover Town Board, which voted themselves a salary last November, included in the budget, which passed unanimously Monday night, $150 a month for the mayor and $100 a month for each of the five commissioners. Kings Mountain city com- missioners, who reportedly are among the state’s highest paid board, are included, along with all city employees, for raises in this year’s budget, which the board will consider for adoption after a public hearing June 24th at 7:30 p.m. Kings Mountain is current- ly paying its six commis- sioners $29,955 annually. The roposed 1986-87 budget tigure is $31,570. Three percent cost of living raises and three percent in- centive raises are proposed for all city employees. In ad- dition, city employees receive paid insurance, in- cluding prescription drugs, for which they pay $2, and retirement and vacation pay. Gaston Graduation Held Graduation ceremonies were held on May 29, 1986 for Gaston College’s thirtieth graduating class. In addition to honoring the graduates another group designated as Marshals were honored. They achieved this honor because of their outstanding grade-point averages after completing a minimum of thirty-five credit hours. Mar- shals were: Nancy P. Advisory Council Named An advisory council of 17 citizens was appointed Tues- day night by the city board of commissioners for the Kings Mountain Senior Center at the Depot. Members of the newly- created board are Charles Walker, Sarah ' Beth Pendleton, Helen Hendricks, Zeb Plonk, Ruth Gamble, Jeanette Surratte, Dr. Joel Jenkins, Mary McMackin, Jonas Bridges, Gary Whitaker, Lloyd Patterson, Gladys Ledbetter, Charles Carpenter, Frank Cagle, William Alexander, Ann Bryant and Lydia Mitchell. In related action, the board voted to continue transporta- tion to the elderly to provide transportation for the serving of meals on wheels to the Melton, Director of the Aging Program. The city receives mileage reimbursement from Cleveland County Department of Social Ser- vices at the rate of 25 cents per mile or a total annual reimbursement of $819 an- nually based on current cer- tified participants. Mrs. Title III prohibits the use delivery of meals. Subscribe To The Herald Melton said the delivery of homebound meals was changed in March 1986 due to a requirement under the Older American's Act service standards. She said she had been informed that of Title III dollars for the elderly. Last year, the city agreed to pick up the cost of delivery when Social Ser- vices stopped, said Teresa ® Wed.-Sat.
