The second annual ‘“‘Southern Ideal Home Show’’ will be held Sept. 4-7 at the Charlotte Convention Center. Last year’s inaugural - show drew some 30,000 people to view exhibits includin everything for the home an remodeling: furniture and accessories, antiques, hard- ware and tools, flooring and carpeting, financial services, do-it-yourself products and clinics, appliances, home building, and much more. If you miss that show, the Raleigh version will be Sept. 18-21 in the Graham Exposi- tion Building of the N.C. State Fairgrounds. “With the economy strong and interest rates low right now, this industry is very hot,” says Marilynn Bowler, show director. ‘‘From building new homes to mov- ing into larger homes or ex- panding existing homes, there’s a lot of activity. This show brings the industry LAURA CRISP Celebrates Birthday Laura Jordan Crisp, _ daughter of Gary and Cathy of Kings Mountain .. . | celebrated her first birthday __ July 25 with a party at her home. The Charlotte show is spon- sored by the Home Builders Association of Charlotte and co-sponsored by WSOC-TV. The Raleigh show is spon- sored by the Home Builders Association of Raleigh and Wake County and co- sponsored by WRAL-TV. “We want people to come to this show and participate,” says Bowler, “to look and touch and feel. To ask ques- tions, discuss prices, materials, quality, labor costs. To compare new pro- ducts to last year’s. A wise shopper can save a lot of money comparing products and prices. Certain areas are earmarked for certain types of products. You can talk with one cabinet maker, find out what he can do for you, then walk across the aisle and talk to another.” Not only can visitors buy products on display -- many of them at special show prices - but organizers are en- couraging them to do research for future home im- provement by bringing cameras and faking photographs of products an services they might be in- terested in later. Anyone br- inging a camera will get 50 cents off the regular admis- sion price. “It’s a selling show,’”’ says Bowler. “If people want to buy, that’s fine. But it’s also a place to do homework. If you see that perfect vanity but it’s not quite in the budget right now, take its picture with the name of the ex- hibitor and you’ll know where to go later.” Both shows will have exten- sive displays on what’s new and exciting in bathrooms and kitchens, including fine new European fixtures for the bath and extensive new organizing systems for the kitchen. A number of special features and events are plan- ned for both shows: *An all-electric feature GROVER INDUSTRIES, INC. shift of your preference. let's talk.
