Ew Brake failure was blamed for an accident Tuesday on West King Street which resulted in property damages to two vehicles and a service station sign. City police said that Robert Taylor, of Gastonia, operating a 1974 Chevrolet which was damaged $400, was applying brakes to stop for traffic on King Street and Cleveland Avenue when his brakes failed and he swerved to the right. The car left the roadway and hit a sign at Danny Shockley’s Shell Sta- tion and a 1986 Chevrolet operated by Michael McDaniel, 608 Hillside Dr., coming out of the service sta- tion yard. McDaniel’s car was damaged $300 and the sign was damaged $50, police estimated. Several parking lot ac- cidents occurred this week. Monday, a hit and run driver struck a parked car owned by Charles Coates of Oklahoma City, OKI. in the parking lot of Cansler St. apartments, doing $1500 to the 1987 Nissan. Sunday on West Mountain St. struck a parked 1986 truck owned by David Benoy, Sr. of 607 W. Mountain St. Damages totaled $2700. Friday on Ridge Street an accident involved cars operated by Barbara Sue Police Report Vandalism Several incidents of van- dalism are under investiga- tion by Kings Mountain Police Department. Two windows were broken out and $150 in damage reported to Grace United Methodist Church. Phillip: Brafford;. of 212: Katherine St., reported that his automobile was broken in- to and vandals took a radio stereo system, equalizer, fuzzbuster, and two sets of speakers, also doing $300 damage to the car. A City of Kings Mountain Public Works warehouse was broken into and $172 worth of tools stolen. Sammy Miller reported that his bicycle was stolen from his yard. Lillian Harrison, 217 N. Carpenter St., reported a purse snatching incident. She said she was walking West on Ridge Street when a black male approached her from behind and took her purse containing some money and papers. Another purse snatching in- cident at Deal Street Park was reported by Lisa Ar- rowood, 410 Cansler St., who said a black male grabbed her and pulled her shoulder bag from her arm. Priscilla Hughes, of Kings Mountain, reported that van- dals threw a brick through her television set, doing $1300 in damages and also took her 1984 model Celebrity Chevrolet which police recovered. Patricia Jean Carroll, 84 Pine Manor, reported theft of a television set valued at $250. Pauline Nations, 1019 Lin- wood Road, reported that so- meone broke into her vehicle while parked at Deal Street Park. Nothing was reported missing, she said. Hawkins, 823 Church St., operating a 1982 Ford which was damaged $100, and a 1972 Ford operated by John Philip Martin of 1409 Shelby Rd., which was damaged $100. A parking lot accident at Hardee’s involved a 1984 Mercury operated by Jim Yarbro, Jr., 102 Sims St., which was damaged $250, and a 1982 Datsun operated by Anthony Houser, Route 5, which was damaged $100.
