The single ‘‘Gentle Hands’’ was the number one requested gospel song at WAAK in Dallas for three weeks and “If You Ever See The City’ was writ- ten for Holly by James Rogers of the Singing Americans, which has been voted the top gospel quartet for seven straight years. “I've heard some of my songs on WAAK in Dallas and WKMT in Kings Mountain,” says Holly. In addition to singing, Holly loves to play the piano and tamborine, and loves cats and baby dolls. In school, she is in the Academically Gifted program, is an Honor Roll student and loves science, math, spelling and reading ‘but not language.” She won her school science fair. Three members of the Joy of Youth singers were backup singers for her song “I. Choose To Be Happy’ and The Royals backed her up on some of the other songs. Other backup artists were Quartet To Present KM Concert The Western Piedmont Str- ing Quartet will present a concert at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Kings Mountain on Sunday after- noon, May 1, at 3:30 p.m. The Western Piedmont Str- ing Quartet has, in a very short time, become an in- stitution. Quickly earning the reputation of profes- sionalism, the quartet was — and continues to be — much in demand for public and private functions. The Quartet was formed in the fall of 1982 and the members consist of: ; James Crawford, first violin, concertmaster of the Western Piedmont Sym- phony and Chamber Or- chestra. He performed as se- cond violinist with Razoumonsky Quartet at the North Carolina School of the Arts, was winner of the Inter- national Music Program Con- certos Compositions, 1984 and 1985. Paula Zimmerman, second violin, principal second violinist of the Western Pied- mont Symphony and Chamber Orchestra, teaches violin and piano in the Suzuki " Kids in Koncert program at Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory. Byron Plexico, viola, prin- cipal violist of the Western Piedmont Symphony and Chamber Orchestra. Graduate of the North Carolina School of the Arts. He was formerly with the Piedmont Chamber Or- chestra. Richard Hughey, cello, music director and conductor of the Western Piedmont Symphony. In 1983 the Catawba County Council for the Arts named the group as one of its artists in residence, presenting them in concerts throughout Catawba County. Further recognition of the String Quartet’s talent came the following year when Lenoir-Rhyne College chose them as its artist in residence, and has renewed this position each year since. Recently the ensemble has been accepted by the North Carolina Arts Council for its education expansion pro- gram. These musicians are the Western Piedmont Sym- Dllonys professional am- assadors, taking fine music to adults and students throughout the Unifour. The May 1st performance is enabled by a grant from the St. Matthew’s Benevolent Foundation as a gift of beauty to the community and is open to the public. The church is located at 201 North Pied- mont Avenue in Kings Moun- tain. SONG SERVICE The public is invited to a song service Sunday at 3 p.m. at Bynum Chapel Church on Cansler Street. Rev. R.E. Devoe of Shiloh Baptist Church, Shelby, who is runn- ing for a seat on the Cleveland County Board of Commissioners, will also be - on the program. David Johnson of North Wilkesboro, Houston Roper of Charlotte, Richard Put- nam of Shelby and James Rainey of the Singing Americans. Holly began singing and playing the piano at the age of five under the direction of Mrs. Huffstickler. She won musical scliolarships and awards in 1986 and 1987 and was voted best performer in her age group in Mrs. Huff- stickler’s 1987 recital. She joined the Joy of Youth singers in 1987 and has ap- peared with that group all over the Carolinas. She began having solo appearances in late 1987. She is available for church services and gospel concerts in the area. Love offerings are requested but not re- quired. Her casette album is available for $7 at Son Sound Studio in Gastonia. Holly is the daughter of Carolyn and Mike Robinson of Bessemer City and the granddaughter of Bill and Nancy Robinson of Bessemer City and Nell Falls and the late Doytt Falls of Kings Mountain.
