Get those cameras out, go through your picture books and pick out some of your best work, and enter the Herald’s first annual photography contest which will be held throughout the month of October. The photo you made of your one-year-old sticking her fingers in her first birthday cake and then smearing the icing all over her face; or the one of your dog treeing the neighbor’s cat; or that beautiful sunset you snapped at Moss Lake could be a winner. Photos of people, landscapes and buildings, animals, sports and recreation, scenes, portraits, or any other that you can think of, are eligible. Prize money totaling $120 will be awarded. First prize will be $50, second $35, third $25 Girl Scout Week Set October 23-30 Red ribbons will be a part of the uniform of the day for Girl Scouts during the week of Oc- tober 23-30. Wearing a red ribbon is the outward symbol of an inner commitment to be drug free. The Red Ribbon Campaign, a project of the National Federa- tion of parents for Drug Free Youth, is being sponsored locally by the Substance Abuse Coalition of Gaston County. The coalition is made up of seventeen groups and agencies. The purpose of the campaign is to present a unified and visible commitment toward Photo Contest and fourth $10. Those photos, as well as the honorable mentions, will appear in the Herald’s November 9 edition. The contest is open to all amateur photographers. Enter as many photos as you wish. Your name, address and telephone number should be written on the back of the picture so it can be returned to you after Judging. The judges will be area professional photographers who have no connection with the Herald or other Greene Newspapers. To enter, fill out the blank on the editorial page (the blank will also appear each week during the month of October) and return the entry blank and photos to Herald Photo Con- test, P.O. Box 769, Kings Mountain, N.C. 28086. If photos are hand-delivered, you still must fill out the blank. Eck Stevens CLEVELAND MALL SHELBY, N.C. The activities will be family- oriented with lots of games, prizes, contests and food. Parents will sell hotdogs, cot- ton candy, popcorn, drinks, can- dy apples, homemade cakes and pies, coffee and hot chocolate and other activities include a magic show, haunted house, jello throw, hayride, basketball shootout, cupcake walk, country store, costume contest, face painting, spray hair coloring, wildcate poster contest, dance and bingo. Proceeds from the fund-raiser will go toward beautification of the school. ~ DAY HOME Principal Shirley Bynum said the P.T.O. this year planned a big one-day fund-raiser instead of the traditional candy sales so all members of the community can take part and so children would not be on the streets and going door-to-door raising money. “We invite everyone to come out and enjoy the fun,” Mrs. Bynum said. ® Free Membership DENNIS NO. 3 : Highway 74 West VIDEOS ® Drive Thru Window For Your Convenience ® Complete Line Of Groceries MALE STARTING THURSDAY, OCTOBER 13! the creation of a drug free America.
