EP TMI AT BILTMORE HOUSE - Bethware fourth graders are pictured in front of the Biltmore House in Asheville during a recent field trip. They were studying North Carolina. Y Bethware From Page 6-A Mr. Bolt is teaching soccer in P.E. In Mrs. McDowell’s A.G. classes, students are studying careers. The speech teacher, Mrs. Pucetta, is using a new speech program for three and four year old children who need help in talking. It’s called SK.A.T.E.S,, (Special Kids and Their Early Speech). The library has just received a shipment of new books. Among the books are Caldecott Award and Newbery Award books, as well as books from Reading Rainbow. The books will soon be ready for students to check out. Children’s Book Week is Nov. 14-20. The theme for the week is ‘Wish Upon a Book”. During the week of Dec. 5-9 Bethware will have a bookfair. I want to quit smoking. Will I experience any withdrawal symptoms? Most smokers who attempt to break their habit may ex- perience withdrawal symptoms. Withdrawal from nicotine is not as physically severe as withdrawal from heroin, but it can be just as stressing, insom- .nia, nervousness, drowsiness, dizziness, anxiety, tremor, lightheadedness, irritability and an intense craving for tobacco. Physical symptoms of withdrawal includes nausea, headache, constipation and an in- crease in appetite and body weight. Some of these symptoms last less than six months for most people, but for some, the craving may remain as long as several years. Tobacco smoking has been linked to heart disease, em- physema, lung cancer, as well as cancer of the mouth and bladder. Smoking during pregnacy causes increases in the rate of stillbirths and illness in the newborn. Tobacco taking is a powerful habit and once started, fewer than 15 percent of smokers are able to quit successfully. Those who are able to quit usually do so for health reasons and are motivated because they ex- perience some symptom of a smoking related disease.
