JUNIOR HIGH AWARD WINNERS-Among winners of Junior High awards on Monday were the re- cipients of the Academic Fitness Awards. Teacher Excellent The shooting gallery at the county fair always fasci- nated John Gimbel, Central School teacher. From that interest his hobby piqued in silhouette shooting and last Saturday he won the 1989 Hunter Pistol state championship in Salisbury topping a field of 73 contestants. Firing at metallic animals representing hunting ani- mals, Gimbel hit 41 out of 60 Thompson Contender and .32 H&R Magnum at firing distances of 25 to 100 meters. The 25 meter target was represented by a chicken, the 50 meter target by a pig, the 75 meter target by a wild turkey and the 100 meter target by a mountain ram. Gimbel has been active in silhouette shooting since 1985 with international air pistol. He was an Olympic finalist in 1980 in Black Canyon, Arizona. Shooters from four states participated in the NRA sanctioned event and Gimbel was high overall champi- on titions. Junior High Awards Day Held Monday Kings Mountain Junior High School held its Annual Awards Day program Monday at Barnes Auditorium. Mary S.
