"The Kings Mountain School System is one of which I am very proud of. This is an exciting time in our system with the passing of the school bond referendum allow- ing our system to make needed capital improvements, the expan- sion of Kings Mountain Senior High, Kings Mountain Junior High for the transition of the high school to grades 9-12 and Junior High to grades 6-8 to a middle school. "I see this an opportunity to serve my community, my children and give something back to the school system that gave me an edu- cation.” Houze, 35, has served as pastor of First Baptist Church of Lawndale for nine years. He and his wife, Karen Cole Houze, and their children, Brian, a second grader at Grover School, Kenya, a 6th grader at Central School, and Brandon, 4, reside in Grover. Mrs. Houze has been a teacher's assis- tant at Grover School for 14 years and Houze is a past president of He was a team leader for the National Teacher Corporation for five years and is an ordained Baptist minister. He is the father of six children, each of whom is a college graduate. Born in No. 5 Township, he is the son of the late Dedrick and Lillie Miller of Kings Mountain and graduated from Ebenezer Elementary School in Kings Mountain, attended Washington High School in Waco and graduat- ed from Carver High School in Kannapolis, Woods Barber College of Charlotte and earned his B. S. and M. S. degrees from N.C. A &T University. He has completed ad- vance studies at Princeton, Seton Hall, Temple, Montclair State, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Jersey City State, Central Piedmont, UNCC and is presently a candidate for a doctor- ate degree at N. C. State University. He is youth supervisor of Third District Sunday School and BTU Congress of Ebenezer Missionary ~~ Baptist State Convention and a member of Pyramid Lodge 13, King Williams AF&AM. He is a member of NEA, NCAE, Charlotte/Mecklenburg AE and NCVAE, and a member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity.
