Follow Signs Farm Conservation Deadline Set Farmers, in Cleveland County who do not have their conservation plan are reminded of the December 31, 1989 deadline. Under the 1985 Food Security Act, anyone who farms highly erodible land must develop a con- servation plan and have it approved by the local Soil and Water Seedling Application Available RALEIGH -- "The N.C. Division of Forest Resources is ac- cepting applications for forest tree seedlings", said Cleveland County Forest Ranger John Hunt. "The Division's nurseries have a good supply of genetically im- proved loblolly pine, longleaf pine, white pine, Virginia pine and short- leaf pine," Hunt said. "Quantities of one-year and two-year red cedar are also available." In addition, Division nurseries have supplies of high quality hard- wood seedlings including black walnut, yellow poplar, sweetgum, black locust and sycamore. Fraser fir seedlings are available for mountain region Christmas tree producers. Hunt said, "landowners should buy longleaf pine seedlings early since foresters are estimating fu- ture supplies to dwindle." Seedling applications can be ob- tained from Ranger's office, the Soil Conservation Service and the Agriculture Extension Service. Hunt said, "the price for seedlings is included on the seedling applica- tion."
