EIR EIFQINEIITET NIEVES SASIIIIIISIIIIS. Thursday, October 26. 1989-THE KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Page 15B Singer To be known as a singer's singer £ and to be appreciated by fellow en- * tertainers is a big compliment. Everybody in show biz wants to be looked up to by their peers. Some would kill for the privilege. Vern Gosdin has won the honors. He's referred to by critics as "The Voice." He ranks right up there with Merla Haggard, George Jones, and other big names. The critics are way behind. It took them awhile to recognize him as a good country singer. The fans have known for years that Gosdin was a special talent. Even back when he sang with his brothers and they were billed as The Gosdin Brothers, he had a lot of fans. Gosdin has always had good luck with radio. DJs have liked and played his records. Vern has spent a quarter of a century in music. Most of his songs have been on the independent labels. He's had two number one hits. This is almost un- heard of since most radio stations don't play independent records. Also, the "indies" don't have the money to push songs like the big major labels, nor do they have the distribution. CBS Records had the good sense to sign Gosdin, thus giving him the promotion and distribution he needed to be a star. His first album on CBS was "Chiseled In Stone." Four top records came out of that session, two reaching the number one spot. The single "Chiseled In Stone" is one of the most touching songs of modern times. It's a mas- terpiece. Gosdin's honest delivery NOBODY But NOBODY Sells x] Te] DX] Jeep, gives it a punch that will burst your heart. Feel is what's important to Vern and he gives every song all he's got. Vern's first album is now ap- proaching the million mark in sales. His second album "Alene" has been released. "I'm Still Crazy" has worked its way up the chart. "That Just About Does It, Don't It?" is going to be a big song for him. It's already on the national charts. Vern co-wrote most of the XRT R00 OS OR GEO CAR OR TRUCK HWY 161 at 1-85 KINGS MOUNTAIN + 739-5471 Vo 11 QUIPPED CHEVROLET, JEEP, EAGL OR LESS GCE KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. songs on the album. One of Vern's best known songs is "If You're Going To Do Me Wrong, Do It Right." It's one of his most requested records and always draws a crowd on the dance floor. Vern is already a star but will be- come even bigger as time goes on. After 25 years the Alabama farm boy who made his living by laying brick has finally gotten the credit he deserves, and country music has another great star.
