BRENDA CALDWELL
Brenda McDaniel Caldwell, 47,
lost her battle with cancer Tuesday.
She died at her home on Range
Road.
Her family said her last wish
was to be present for son Chip's
22nd birthday.
Minutes after the family had
gathered around her bedside with a
birthday cake she passed away, her
sister, Pat said. "Brenda was the
most courageous person I have ev-
er known," she said.
Mrs. Caldwell had been ill with
cancer for two years. Her husband
accompanied her to Greece in
January for cancer treatments.
Funeral services for Mrs.
Caldwell will be held Thursday at
4 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist
Church of which she was a mem-
ber. Rev. Randy Gardner, Rev. Ed
Sesson and Rev. Tracy Jessup will
officiate and interment will be in
Bethlehem Baptist Church
Cemetery.
A native of Cleveland County,
she was the wife of DeWayne
Caldwell whom she married March
16, 1963. She was daughter of
Lollie Wells McDaniel of Kings
Mountain and the late Floyd
McDaniel.
Also surviving are two sons,
Chip Caldwell and Phillip
Caldwell, both of the home; and
two sisters, Mrs. Pat Haynes and
Mrs. Kay Beason, both of Kings
Mountain.
She was a Sunday School teach-
er and youth coordinator at
Bethlehem Baptist Church, a
precinct judge at Bethware precinct
and a member of PEO Sisterhood.
She had been a salesperson for
leather goods for several years.

Myrtle Jones Mack, 88, of 703
‘Church Street, Kings Mountain,
died October 30, 1989 at Kings
Mountain Hospital.
A native of Gaston County, she
was the daughter of the late Elisha
W. and Ada McClure Jones and
was married to the late William T.

ELDRED PATTERSON
ASHEVILLE - Eldred Pikney
Patterson, 69, of 60 Brickdale
Drive, died October 28, 1989 at
Memorial Mission Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County,
he was the son of the late Pikney
and Mary Delia McDaniel
Patterson and was retired after 30
years of service with Dover
Textiles. He was a member of
Bethel Baptist Church in Shelby
and was a U.S. Army veteran of
World War II. He received three
Purple Hearts and two Oak Leaf
Clusters.
He is survived by two sons,
Ronnie Patterson of Lattimore and
Duncan Patterson of Shelby; one
daughter, Shirley Strickland of
Asheville; one sister, Ruth Carroll
of Kings Mountain; and three
grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted
Monday at 11 a.m. at Harris
Chapel in Kings Mountain by Dr.
Randy Gardner. Burial was in the
Bethlehem Baptist Church ceme-
tery.
GENE MITCHAM
Calvin Eugene Mitcham, 62, of
Fayetteville, Kings Mountain na-
tive, died Tuesday.
Funeral services will be held
Friday at 2 p.m. at St. James
Lutheran Church of which he was
a member. Burial will be in
Lafayette Memorial Park.
Surviving are his wife, Mary W.
Mitcham; two daughters, Pam
Hicks of West Columbia, S.C. and
Donna Runkle of Fayetteville; one
son, Calvin E. Mitcham II of
Bloomington, Indiana; his mother;
Mrs. Ethel Mitcham of
Fayetteville; brother, Charles H.
Mitcham of Myrtle Beach, S.C.
and five grandchildren.

Proctor Lodge and was employed
in the Supply Department of
Cumberland County Sheriff's
Department. He was a former em-
ployee of the City of Kings
Mountain.

Culpepper, Williams
To Head Fund Drive
C. Nathan Culpepper and
Richard (Stick) Williams of Shelby
will serve as corporate/business
chairmmen for the upcoming
Adventure House capital cam-
paign.
The goal of $316,500.00 will be
used for expansion of existing fa-
cilities at 924 N. Lafayette Street in
Shelby and acquisition and expan-
sion of adjoining property.

there. In order to assist these peo-
ple who have severe and persistent
mental illness, we must have the
facilities to continue our rehabilita-

James Bratton Rikard, 71, of 710
Stone Street, Kings Mountain, died
October 28, 1989 at Kings
Mountain Hospital.
A native of Lexington, S.C., he
was a retired auto mechanic and
son of the late Quinton and Eula
Kyzer Rikard. He was a member of
Grace United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Lois
Bennett Rikard; four sons, Barry
Rikard, Tommy Rikard, Jimmy
Rikard and Gerald Rikard, all of
Kings Mountain; one daughter,
Nancy Rikard of Kings Mountain;
one brother, Samuel Rikard of
Leesville, S.C.; five sisters, Mrs.

E. GERALD WRIGHT
DUNN - Edwin Gerald Wright,
40, of 104 Westfield Drive, died
Friday at Rex Hospital in Raleigh.
A native of Cherokee County,
S.C., he was the son of Thomas
Floyd Wright and Ida Mae Cook
Wright of Grover. He was a gradu-
ate of Western Carolina University,
where he received a B.S. in
Education. He also held a Masters
of Education from Fayetteville
State University. He was a teacher
at Erwin Middle School and was a
member of First Baptist Church in
Erwin, where he was a deacon and
music director.
In addition to his parents, he is
survived by his wife, Patricia
Howington Wright of the home;
one daughter, Amy Ann Wright of
the home; and two brothers,
Michael Wright of Kings Mountain
and Phillip Wright of the U.S.
Army in Augsburg, West Germany.
The funeral was conducted
Monday at 3:30 p.m. at First
Baptist Church in Erwin by the
Rev. Jerry Hicks and the Rev.
Steven Burrows. Burial was in the
Grover cemetery Tuesday at 1 p.m.

JOE ANN McDANIEL,
Walker (Boots) McDaniel, 63, of
605 Meadowbrook Road, were
conducted Friday at 11 a!m. at
Mountain Rest Cemetery.
Rev. Bob Collins officiated at
the service.
Mrs. McDaniel died Oct. 25 at
home.
She was a native of Arcadia,
Fla., daughter of the late City
Commissioners Obediah O. Walker
and Maude Rhea Walker. She was
member of Kings Mountain Baptist
Church. An active member of
Kings Mountain Little Theater, she
was a past president and had per-
formed in many Little Theater
roles over the years.
She was a former employee of
the City of Kings Mountain.
Surviving are her daughter,
Sheryl McDaniel Brown of
Charlotte.
