At GROUND BREAKING - Ground was broken Saturday at the site of the new Eng School of Self Defense on North Piedmont Avenue. Eng To Build Karate School Eng School of Self Defense broke ground for a new 4,000 square feet building on North Piedmont Avenue Saturday morn- ing. Owner Robert Eng, owner, was joined in the ground breaking cere- mony by Mayor Kyle Smith, con- tractor Robert Walker and his pas- tor, Rev. Oscar Stalcup of Foursquare Gospel Church. Cabaniss Gary H. Whitaker, President of First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Kings Mountain, announces this week that Joseph E. Cabaniss, a Cleveland County na- tive and resident of Shelby, has joined First Federal in the newly- crcated position of Business Development Director. Whitaker said that Cabaniss, who is currently Chairman of the Cleveland County Board of Commissioners, brings 43 years of savings and loan experience to the association, much of which was spent as President of First Federal Savings and Loan of Shelby and most recently with Old Stone Savings Bank. Cabaniss has always been active in his community and has served on the Board of Trustees of Cleveland Memorial Hospital and the Chamber of Commerce, where he is a past president. In addition he has been moderator of the Kings Mountain Baptist Association and is a past president of the Kiwanis Club of Shelby. President Whitaker advised, that Eng, who opened North Carolina's first full-time martial arts school in 1978 on East Gold Street, said building his own build- ing has been a goal for many years. "Loyal students and a communi- ty that cares has been the reason for our success for the past 12 years," said Eng. "The building of a new school is just a goal that all of us set out to do years ago." Joins Firs JOE CABANISS while Mr. Cabaniss' considerable talents will be utilized at the Kings Mountain home office and the Gastonia branch office, he will be primarily located at the Shelby branch office on East Dixon Boulevard. Whitaker stressed that the Association is very excited about Harry Named Chairman Of Board Charles FE. Harry, III has been elected The Chairman of the Organizing Board of Carolina State Bank. Carolina State Bank has been approved by the State Banking Commission and is in the process of selling its stock. As of today, 80% of the stock has been subscribed. Harry is currently serving as County Commissioner, life mem- ber Shrine Bowl Committee Carolina Board of Governors, President of Grover Industries and a member of the Shelby Presbyterian Church. Carolina State Bank plans to open for business in the fall of this year in Kings Mountain and Shelby. CHARLES HARRY Hambright Joins Security Bank J.G. Rutledge, III, chairman and president, has announced that David K. Hambright has joined the Salisbury office of Security Bank as assistant vice president and loan officer. A graduate of North Carolina State University with a degree in economics and business manage- ment, he also has completed the Robert Morris Associates Omega Course. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Kish Hambright of Kings Mountain, Hambright is currently serving as captain and company commander of the Lexington and Mocksville NC Army National Guard. Prior to joining Security, Hambright was a commercial loan officer with another North Carolina Bank. He will be relocating to Salisbury soon. DAVID HAMBRIGHT Security Bank currently operates six offices in Salisbury. Tom Ayers is senior vice president and city manager of the Salisbury offices. KM FEDERAL CREDIT UNION TO MEET The annual meeting of Kings Mountain Federal Credit Union will be on Thursday, Feb. 15, at 7:30 p.m. at Resurrection Lutheran Church fellowship hall. Refreshments and door prizes will feature the meeting to which all officers, directors and share- holders are invited to attend. Eng, a Kings Mountain native, has trained several world champion kick boxers while also putting on karate and kick boxing demonstra- tions and writing self defense books. He has traveled all over the world as a promoter and trainer. Cablelink Honors 15 Employees Cablelink Inc. honored 15 em- ployees with service awards at its first Service Awards Banquet at Kings Mountain Country Club Wednesday night. Larry Burke, Chief Operating Officer, and Michael Schreiweis, Director of Human Resources, from Cablelink's parent company, Robinson Nugent Inc, New Albany, Indiana, were special guests. Cablelink's General Manager Andrew Janelle and Operations Manager William Nelson presented framed certificates and a special design lapel pin to four employees who have been with the company since its inception six years ago and 11 employees who have been with the company five years. Receiving six-year awards were Tinky Scarborough, Gladys Worthy, Jane Clemmer and Connie James. Receiving five-year awards were Antwone Camp, Dianne Patterson, Era Green, Wanda Hamrick, Hazel Watterson, Sharese Bell, Samantha Llewellyn, Kimberly Navy, Delores Edgerton, Dale Baugham and Carolyn Lovelace. In 1982, Cablelink Products Division was organized at 311 Childers Street as a division of ADC Communications, Minneapolis, Minnesota for the purpose of manufacturing molded cable assemblies for a select cus- tomer base in the computer indus- try.
