Lanning Sr., 67, died January 30, 1990 at Habersham Medical Center in Clarksville, Ga. A native of i Asheville, Rev. Lanning was the son of the late Grover and Cora Crawford Lanning. He was employed by Mt. Vernon Mills of Alto, Ga. He was for- mer pastor of First Freewill Baptist Church in Kings Mountain. His wife was the late Evelyn Ruth Lanning. He is survived by his daughters, Cora Lanning of Lula, Ga., Ann Johnson of Homer, Ga., Sara Shaw of Stanley and Paulette McSwain of Cherryville; son, Paul Lanning Jr. of Stanley; sister, Ruby Hines of Rock Hill, S.C.; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The funeral was conducted at Silver Shoals Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. ROBERT W. ROUNDS SHELBY - Robert William Rounds, 69, of 2564 South Post Road, died February 3, 1990 at N.C. Baptist Hospital in Winston- Salem. A native of Weatherfield, N.Y., he was the son of the late Marry E. and Leona Mayer Rounds and was employed as a security officer at Bayliner. He was a member of Cleveland Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and exempt volunteer fireman for Wrights Corner's Fire Company, Wrights Corner, N.Y. He is survived by his wife, Marion Sharts Rounds of the home; one son, Robert Rounds Jr. of Kings Mountain; four daughters, Marilyn Brock of Gastonia, Sharon Smith of Grover, LuAnn Hunter of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Barbara Arns of Lockport, N.Y.; one broth- "er, Roger Round of Shelby; and eight grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Episcopal Church of the Redeemer by the Rev. Dennett Buettner. Burial was in Cleveland Memorial Park. MARY H. LONDON Mary H. London, 805 Woodhaven Drive, Cherryville, 84, died 2 p.m. Sunday in Cleveland Memorial Hospital following a three-week illness. A native of Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Augustus Lee and Roxanne Black Houser. Her husband, the late Lawton Woosley London, died in 1981. Services were in First Baptist Church of Cherryville, Tuesday, Feb. 6, at 2 p.m. with the Revs. Mike Minnix, Bill Terry, Perry Holleman and Chaplain J.H. Cooke officiating. Burial was in City Memorial Cemetery, with Carpenter's Funeral Home in charge. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 301 E. First St., Cherryville. Survivors are one daughter , Mrs. Joan Allen of Cherryville. One son, Lawton Woody London died in 1988. There are three sur- viving grandchildren and four great grandchildren surviving. ALICE ALLISON Alice Whistnant Allison, 82, died Monday, February 5, 1990 at ' Kings Mountain Convalescent Center. A Cleveland County native, she was the daughter of the late Everett and Lucy Harrison Whistnant and wife of the late David Allison. She was a homemaker and member of Second Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons, Eugene Allison of Kings Mountain and Edward Allison of Bessemer City; five daughters, Osteen "Tina" Crawford of Charlotte, Rachel Mull and Aileen Adams of Shelby, and Freida McCarter and Elizabeth Logan of Blacksb S.C.; two brothers, Adam Waistnant of Morganton and J.E. Whistnant of Forest City; six sisters, Clara Watkins of Texas, Lillie McKinney of Bostic, Gladys Gamble of Caroleen, Myrtle Calloway of Newton, and Evelyn Holland and Joyce Williams of Alexander Mills; 20 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. The funeral was conducted ERE Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Second Baptist Church by the Rev. Eugene Land and the Rev. Wray Barrett. Burial was in Camps Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. MYRTLE FRANKS Funeral services for Mr 1y: Hardin Franks, 92, Jf Hawthorne Street, Belmont, who died Feb. 6 at 2:41 a.m. at Gaston Memorial Hospital, will be con- ducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at Kings Mountain's Midview Baptist Church by Rev. Claude Babb and Rev. James Williams, interment following in Mountain Rest Cemetery. A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Sarah Toms Hardin and was widow of James B. Franks. She was a retired textile spinner. She was a member of Midview Baptist Church. Surviving are sons, Charles Franks of Gaffney, S. C. and Richard Franks of Chattanooga, Tenn.; daughter, Helen Short of Belmont; sisters, Lela Kiser, Pearl Whitaker and Gladys Greene, all of Forest City; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great- great grandchild. VIRGIE WYLIE BLACKSBURG, S.C. - Virgie Wright Wylie, 83, of 608 West Cherokee Street, died January 29, 1990 at Upstate Carolina Medical Center in Gaffney. A Hickory Grove native, she was the daughter of Rev. L.P. and Ila Mae Whelchel Wright and wife of the late Benjamin Frank Wylie. She was a member of Blacksburg Church of God. ] She is survived by three sons, Jerry R. Wylie and J. Reginald Wylie of Blacksburg and Rev. T. Aaron Wylie of Kannapolis; four daughters, Deloria Harvey of Blacksburg, Brenda Elmore of Gaffney, Betty Page of Charlotte and Norma Sue Reale of Gettysburg, Pa.; two brothers, Thomas Wright and Manuel Wright of Gaffney; five sisters, Nora Moss of Blacksburg, Bobbie Sue Page of Shelby, Nannie Bell Rippy of Kings Mountain, Thelma Blanton of Raleigh and Judy Plesh of Greenville, N.C.; 17 grandchil- dren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Services were conducted Thursday at 4 p.m. at Blacksburg Church of God by the Rev. Marvin Lee. Burial was in Mountain View. Cemetery. JOHN HURDT GROVER - John Junior Hurdt, 60, of Route 1, died January 31, 1990 at Cleveland Memorial Hospital. A Cleveland County native, he was the son of the late James Franklin and Lottie Hoyle Hurdt and was the retired owner and op- erator of Hurdt Used Cars. : He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Catawba Valley Knife Club and the Bethlehem Mint Knife Club. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Shelby. He is survived by his wife, Pauline Elizabeth Whetstine Hurdt of the home; four sons, Barry Hurdt of Iron Station, Joseph Hurdt of Shelby, and Thomas Hurdt and - Billy Hurdt of Kings Mountain; two daughters, Bgnny Greene and Cynthia Davis ®f Grover; six brothers, Joe Hurdt of Blacksburg; S.C., Dwight Hurdt of Kings Mountain, Andrew Hurdt of Shelby, Ronald Hurdt of Hollis and James Hurdt and Leonard Hurdt of Golden Valley; three sisters, Shirley Adams of Blacksburg, and Ruth Philbeck and Carolyn Hurdt of Shelby; and five grandchildren. Services were conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church in Shelby by the Rev. Barry Goddman and the Rev. Billy Boone. Burial was in the church cemetery.
