A meeting was held at Second Baptist Mission with Rev. t.W. Bray, C.O. Greene, and Lawrence Roberts for the purpose of organizing the church. There was no building for our worship and Mrs. Lucille Blanton let us use her house for a place of worship. Rev. Walter Flay Payne was called as our first pastor on November 15 and ordained on November 22. On November 8, 1953 we choose as a name for our church, FAITH BAPTIST CHURCH because we went out by faith. Burlington Mill Company gave us the first land to build on located on Branch Street. On February 14, 1954 we went into our first | building and had in attendance 79 with an offering of $79.22. In March of 1961, our first Sunday School Plant was dedicated. Our first parsonage was completed in the 1960s. In March of 1974 Faith Baptist Church voted to buy ten acres of land from the Whitesides Estate on Linwood Road. In December of 1975, Faith Baptist Church sold their property on Branch Street and moved to the Community Center for worship while constructing their present buildings. In September of 1976, we moved into our new building which God gave us at a cost of approximately $40,000. A new parsonage was completed in December of 1977. yi REV.
