Spaghetti Supper Set Sept. 7 On Friday, September 7, mem- bers of the Russell Fellowship Class of Central United Methodist Church will once again don aprons as they sponsor their fifth annual spaghetti supper at the Kings Mountain High School cafeteria. Proceeds will help fund the class's annual Christmas project...toys and food for needy families in the Kings Mountain area. Since 1986 the class has raised money with the spaghetti supper and with donations from other church classes and individuals. ‘Hallie Blanton of the Kings Mountain School System screens and refers families who need assis- tance. Last year approximately 25 families were helped. The project began when class members decided there was a need for assistance to families during the holidays. "We have all been MEMBERS OF RUSSELL FELLOWSHIP CLASS blessed and we feel that we should share our blessings with others...es- pecially children. We do it for the children," said a class spokesman. If you are going to the game be- tween Kings Mountain and East Lincoln on September 7, or if you jut want dinner, go to the Kings Mountain High School cafeteria between 5 and 7:30 p.m. You will Eller To Be Guest Speaker At Boyce ARP Homecoming Boyce Memorial A.R.P. Church will be celebrating its annual homecoming service Sunday, September 9. Dr. Barry Eller will be the guest speaker. After serving pastorates in South Carolina and Georgia, Dr. Eller accepted a call to serve as Catawba Presbytery's (A.R.P.) Evangelist for New Church Development in 1988. He is cur- rently finishing up his second work in this capacity and will be moving to Tega Cay this fall to start anoth- er church. Mr. Eller holds three degrees from Erskine College and Seminary: Bachelor of Arts, Master of Divinity, and Doctor of Ministry. He is married to the for- mer Barbara Rogers, and they have three children. Leigh, Ashley and Daniel. The special day will begin at 9:45 a.m. with Sunday School for all ages. The morning worship, led by Dr. Eller, will begin at 11 a.m. DR. BARRY ELLER and be followed by a covered dish lunch at 12:30 p.m. After lunch, a Psalm Sing will be held in the fel- lowship hall. The public is invited. Labor Day Celebration Set Tryonota Volunteer Fire Department will hold its 26th an- nual Labor Day celebration Monday, September 3. The depart- ment is located on Highway 274 in the Tryon School community, mid- way between Bessemer City and Cherryville. This is the 26th consecutive Labor Day celebration, featuring all-day barbecue, hamburger, hot dogs, french fries, ice cream (10 a.m.-8 p.m.), games (10 a.m.-1 p.m.), kiddie rids and music (be- ginning at 10 a.m.), a mud-sling at 2 p.m. and drivers meeting at 12:30 p.m. Fire Chief Tim Bridges calls it the "biggest and best" celebration in the area. He invites everyone to attend, eat, relax and bring their four-wheel drive and try it out in the mud pit. Proceeds will be used for the continued operations and improve- ment of the equipment and fire de- partment building. Under the direction of Chief Bridges, Tryonota continues to strive to serve the community and neighboring fire department. Each fireman gives of his time to take more training to obtain firefighter one classification. Currently the department spends about 800 hours a month in training. This training includes interior structural fire fighting techniques, hazardous ma- terials, breathing apparatus, and ladder and hose work. The firemen have improved their response time, becoming the quickest responder in Gaston County. KM's Holly Robinson To Sing This Weekend Holly Robinson of Kings Mountain will sing at two area churches this weekend. Holly will sing at White Oaks Baptist Church in Hickory (near the Hickory Airport) Saturday at 7 p.m. She will sing at homecoming Sunday at Nesbitt's Chapel Methodist Church in Fairview. "We are fortunate to have Mr. Brady to come to our community. Those who have taken part in these classes in the past have been able to add to the cultur- al advancement of our city. The classes have made both children and adults more aware of the world around us and have encouraged all of us to see new ways to express our thoughts." Brady will bring all the materials needed for each class. The cost of the children's class is $5 per class. They will meet the third Tuesday of each month throughout the school year. Since class size is limited, pre-registra- tion is required by calling Mrs. Snow. Children should come to class dressed in clothes that can stand a fresh dab of color here and there. Adults will hear a lecture and demonstration by Brady each month. They will not paint in class, but will take notes, watch and do | some painting at home. The second half of each class is critique of work the students bring in. Persons who have never attend- ed one of the adult classes may at- tend the first class as a guest and see if they would like to join. Then, they may join for $35 for nine lessons.
