Parks & Recreation Ddpartment is interested in con- dueiing a Horseshoe Tournament on Saturday September 15. The de- partment will use the response from this tournament to determine the" need for future tournaments and permenant facilities. The tour- nament will consist of men's single and doubles, women's singles and doubles, and mixed doubles. Entry feeds $4.00 per person per event. National Horseshoe Pitchers Association will govern play with official shoe size no more than 7 1/4%inches wide, 4 3/8 inches long and shall not weight more than 2 pounds. Official scoring for the vent will be as follows: Closest shoes to stake 1 pt.--2 shoes closer than op- ponents 2 pts.--1 ringer 3 pts.--2 ringers 6 pts.--1 ringer and closest shoe of same player 4 pts.--2 ringers against opponents ringer is In order to assure proper pairing and awards pitchers are encour- aged to pre-register at the Kings Mountain Community center from 8:30 a.m. 8:30 p.m. Monday- Thursday and from 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. on Fridays. Day of Tournament registration must be completed from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. to be assured a place in the draw. The department will develop 4 new sets of pits beside Jake Early Ballfield for this event. All area pitchers are encouraged to partici- pate in this event as the department is interested in running tourna- ments on a regular basis and, if in- terest justifies, establishing a league next spring.
