Page 14A-THE KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Thursday, September 6, 1990 Packard Receives Actress Nomination Kyrin Packard, Cleveland Community College's Visting Artist for 1990-91, has received a Best Actress PACKARD: Lo nation Sacramento Area Regional Theatre Alliance for her role as Shelby in the play Steel Magnolias. SARTA is the organizational body for 35 professional theatres within the California Bay area. Ms. Packard performed with Nevda City, California's City Theatre, a member theatre. One hundred - forty-six shows produced between Augsut 1, 1989 and July 31, 1990 were submitted for consideration for the annual awards honoring ex- cellence on area stages. Steel Magnolias received a total of six nominations, including Best Production. : Ms. Packard's bicoastal training includes the University of North Carolina and the Graduate Theatre Program at California State University. She has performed and tourned extensively with the San Gabriel Performing Arts Company, the L.A. Acting Company and Theatre Rapport in Hollywood. A native North Carolinian, her pro- fessional credits regionally include the North Carolina Stage Company, GM Productions and Saturday Night Leftovers. She has also performed with Cleveland Community College, Gardner- Webb College, and The Greater Shelby Community Theatre. She is available to all non-profit commu- nity organizations, schools and churches in Cleveland County as a performer, lecturer, workshop lead- er or consultant in the field of dra- matic arts. Parrish has been em- ployed by Cleveland Community College as the fashion merchandis- ing and marketing technology co- ordinator. She has an A.A. in fashion mer- chandising and marketing technol- ogy from Cleveland Community College and a B.S. in marketing from Winthrop College. A profes- sional fashion show coordinator, Ms. Parrish has worked as an edu- cator in the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools and for the American Business and Fashion Institute. She has also been a career coun- selor and wardrobe consultant for civic groups in Charlotte and Lincolnton. She lives in Cherryville with her son, 2-year-old Trey. Gastonia Library Announces Operating Hours Effective Saturday, September 8, the Main Library at 1555 East Garrison Boulevard in Gastonia will be open from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Saturdays, and from 2:00 PM to 6 PM on Sundys during the school year, from September through May, announces Phillip Ritter, Director of the Gaston County Public Library. The addition of operating hours at the Main Library is in response to popular demand, and has been made possible by five additional staff positions for the Main Library, as approved by the Gaston County Board of Commissioners in the 1990-1991 library budget. Ritter notes that the expanded weekend hours will better serve members of the public who work during the week, as well as public school and college students, fami- lies, and general public. Registration Set Thursday At Gaston College Members of the Baptist Student Union (BSU) at Gaston College will man a booth to offer refresh- ments and information during reg- istration Thursday, Sept. 6, at the college. The booth will be staffed between 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and again from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. Members hope the booth will promote the organization and at- .-tract potential members.
