n% Thursday, April 23, 1992-THE KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Page 9A 3 Sharks win Short Course Finale at Neisler Natatorium) The Sharks Aquatics Club scored 298 points to win first place in the 1992 Short Course Finale held Sat., Apr. 11 at Neisler Natatorium. Rutherford County was second with 293 points, and Gaston County third with 269. Eight swim clubs attended the meet. Fifty-one Sharks swimmers competed with the boys finishing first overall with 142 points and the girls coming in third with 156 points. Nathan Mayse won the highest points trophy in the 13-14 boys di- vision. Mayse and Kelly Hendrick led the Sharks with three first places each. Mayse also added one second place finish. Other leaders for the Sharks in- cluded Josh Kienlen with three sec- ond places and a third place; Angela Strahler with one first and one third; Lew Holman with a sec- ond and a third; Michelle Grose with a second and two thirds; Amy Hendrick with one second and one third; and Daniel Miller with two thirds. Also adding first place finishes were the 8-under girls relay team, the 13-14 girls relay team, and the 10-under boys relay team. Strahier, third in 200 free relay. 11-12 girls - Michelle Grose, second in 100 fly, third in 200 IM and 100 breast, fourth in 100 back; Amy Hendrick, second in 100 back, third in 50 fee; Hanson Mabry, fifth in 100 free, 100 back Senior Games Monday at Gardner-Webb The ninth annual regional Senior Games begin at Gardner-Webb College Monday at 8:30 a.m. with a Fun Walk for all participants. One of the most exciting, health- ful, and fastest-growing programs for senior adults in this area is the Senior Games program. Each spring older adults ages 55 and above from Cleveland and Rutherford Counties join together for recreation, competition, and fun. Senior Games is an exciting experience that many adults find challenging and motivational. Opening ceremonies will be held at 10 a.m. in the college stadium. Track and field events will also be held on Monday morning. Lunch will be provided for participants af- ter the morning events. Games for the afternoon are billiards and table tennis. Events for Tuesday are cycling, SK and 10K runs, 5K race walk, golf, swimming and tennis. Wednesday games will feature shuffleboard, horseshoes, basket- ball shooting, and badminton. On Thursday the featured events will be croquet, putt-putt, and bowling. Closing ceremonies will be held in the Campus Center Banquet Hall at 7 p.m. Silver Arts performers will provide the entertainment. A reception will follow the presenta- tion of awards. Tailenders move closer to Rednecks The Tailenders eased a little closer toward the top in Mixed Duckpin Bowling League action Thursday night at Dilling Heating. The Rednecks, who have owned a huge lead since the start of the second half, could manage no more than a split in their match with the Spades. But the Tailenders swept the Duckpins to pick up two more games on the leaders. The Rednecks sport a 40-20 mark while the Tailenders are 31- 29. The Duckpins are third at 26- 34, followed by the Spades at 24- 36. Three bowlers topped the 300- set mark to lead the Tailenders to victory. Bill Myers rolled a 127 line and 362 set, Johnny Jones KMHS netters edge East Kings Mountain High's tennis team edged East Lincoln 5-4 in non-conference play Tuesday. Kings Mountain winners includ- ed Pat Frei, Chad Huntsinger, Bo Phongsa and Jonathan Jones in sin- gles; and Turner and Huntsinger in doubles. In practice matches, KM's Todd Huntsinger, Shrimaha Rithaphong, Roger Hamm, Chris Hawkins, Jeff Benton, Eric Page and Rich Turner Were winners. (Singles) Jason Hill (EL) d. Basketball camp June 8-13 Larry Sipe's Champions of Tomorrow Basketball Camp for boys and girls in grades two through seven will be held June 8- 13 at the Kings Mountain High School gym. The hours are 8 a.m. until 12 noon. Applications are available from elementary school physical educa- tion teachers or by calling Coach Sipe at 734-KMHS. The fee is $45, of which $20 must accompany the application. The remaining $25 will be paid up- on entering camp. Each camper will receive a bas- ketball, camp t-shirt, handbook, and certificate.
