In spite of Saturday's hot weather, she said riding in the KM Saddle Club horse show was fun and for a good cause. Horse show raises $400 for child Sandy Morrow, 13, has been riding with the Kings Mountain Saddle Club since age 3. Dusty Merritt, 9, and his father, Chris Merritt, were among the fa- thers and sons in the group of 100 riders and spectators at Saturday's youth horse show for benefit of six-months-old Kayla Newton. "It sure is hot," said Benji Roberts, who was waiting on the sidelines for Dusty Merritt to ride in one of the events. Frank and Mary Morrow's daughter, Sandy, rode in the Pony Express and potato race. Heather Booth was another rider who enjoyed the show in nearly 100 degree temperatures. "It's all for a good cause," she said. Connie Stowe, president of the club, said the club appreciated the Bell to play baseball at G-W Donald Bell of Kings Mountain has signed to play baseball at Gardner-Webb University, which will move to NCAA Division II status next year. Bell will be used as an outfield- er, first baseman and pitcher for Coach Clyde Miller's Bulldogs. Bell played two years at Kings Mountain High School and three years of American Legion baseball here. In his final season of legion ball in 1992, Bell hit .333 with four home runs and helped lead Post 155 to the Area IV championship series. "I've really missed baseball and I am really excited about getting back into it," said Bell, who attend- ed Gaston College for one year. He will enter G-W as a sophomore. Bell is the son of Jack and Karen Bell of Kings Mountain.
