KMMS club installs officers The Kings Mountain Middle School Chapter of Career Exploration Clubs of North Carolina installed officers recently at a service held in the school cafe- teria. One hundred CECNC mem- bers and special guests attended. Denise Stallings, Cleveland County Health Director, was guest speaker. She stressed the impor- tance of setting goals early in life and working to achieve them. She Head Start presents awards The Cleveland County Head Start Program presented recogni-, tion plaques to parents as a high- light of the December Christmas banquet at Shelby High School Cafeteria. The art work of the 204 children enrolled in the program featured the decorations. Stan Hardin presented entertain- ment, stressing the importance of learning to laugh. Door prizes were compliments of The Wood Shop, Harris-Teeter and Bojangle's. Parents who received plaques for volunteer service were Angela Cannon, first place, 126 hours to Marion Center, a gift certificate from Ingle's, a poinsettia from Linwood Produce and books.; Sharon Brooks, 123 hours at No. 3 Center, a Winn-Dixie gift certifi- cate and a poinsettia; Vivian McClain, 74 hours to North Center, a gift certificate from Food Lion; Vickie Smith, 72 hours to. Union-S Center, a gift, certificate; and Andrena Smith, 62 hours at Jefferson Center, who received a gift certificate from Harris-Teeter. Jefferson Center received a classroom prize package for most parent volunteer hours to date. The educational supplies were compli- ments of Carolina Educational Supply, Morgan Brothers, Troll Book Club, Environments, to Stay Bound Books, Kings Mountain Office Supply, Chime Time, Kaplan School Supply, ABC School Supply, Education Station, Bender and Sons School Supply and Southern School Supply. Santa's Secret Shop was busy at East School prior to the Christmas holidays. Helping with the shopping were Kim Franks, PTO President, and Shearra Miller, chairman of the School Board. Other winners were Marion Center, 167; Union-S Center, 144; Bethware Center, 126; and Graham Center, 120. All re- maining centers were given an edu- cational gift. Union-B Center won five large pizzas compliments of Dominos Pizza of Shelby for the most parent participation at the banquet. Jefferson and Washington Centers tied for the second highest parent participation number at the banquet. Both centers received two large pizzas from Pizza Hut. Anne Griffin, top, community representative’ for'the past 12 years, received an engraved plaque, a gift certificate from Harris-Teeter and a poinsettia for the most community volunteer hours program wide. She has donated over 160 hours to North Center. Christie Jefferies won two din- ners from Quincy's for the second highest community volunteer hours. She volunteered 58 hours at Marion Center in 1993. Harril Cook won a gift certifi- cate and two meals from Bojangle's for third highest community vol- unteer hours. He donated 55 hours to Falstaff Center in 1993. TRE EE also emphasized that one must take care of one's body physically and mentally. Installed as officers for 1993-94 were Charlie Evans, president; Jaime Eller, first vice president; Jennifer Patterson, second vice president; Steven Lancaster, secre- tary; Linda Phannareth, treasurer; Leisty Tindall, reporter; Amber Woods, sentinel; Candice Williams, historian; Heather Causby, parliamentarian; and Laura Bridges, sergeant at arms. Ornaments were displayed on a tree in the school office during the first two weeks of December. A contest was held in two cate- gories of ornaments. Winners of the fabric ornaments were Karen Shytles, first place; Dawn Roberts, second; and Jada Clark, third. Winners of the wooden orna- ments were Mindy Belt, first; Carter Davis, second; and John Anders, third. Area students on honors list Several area students were named to the Cleveland Community College President's List for the fall quarter. To make the list one must be a full-time stu- dent (12 or more quarter hours) and achieve a grade point average of 4.0. Area students selected include Raymond L.
