v Kings Mountain's 13-14 year-old all-stars include, front row, left to right, Seth Denton, Ray Ledbetter, Matthew Ferguson, Jason Putnam, Robbie Walker, Michael Jolly and Brandon Putnam. Back, Jonathan KM Dixie Boys 1-2 in district tourney Kings Mountain's 13-14 year-old Dixie Boys all-stars won one of three games in the District 4 Tournament last week at Bessemer City Junior High Park. Kings Mountain lost to Gastonia 14-4 in the first round Thursday. Top hitters for KM were Seth Denton with a single, Jason Putnam with a double, Rusty Putnam with a triple, and Andy Leigh with a single. Losing pitcher was Rusty Putnam. Friday, KM defeated Tryon 18- 4. Jason Putnam had a single, Rusty Putnam had two singles, Andy Leigh had a triple, Matthew Ferguson had a single, Michael Jolly had a single, and Jonathan Sanders had a single and triple. Sanders was also the winning pitcher. Saturday, KM fell 12-10 to Bessemer City. Rusty Putnam as 3- for-4 with two doubles and a sin- gle, Andy Leigh was 2-for-4 with a double and single, Seth Denton was 2-for-3 with two singles, Michael Jolly was 2-for-4 with a single ‘and double, Jason: Putnam had a double, Brandon Putnam a single, and Matthew Ferguson a single. Seth Denton was the losing pitcher, KMHS athletes receive awards Numerous Kings Mountain High School athletes received Pepsi- Cola Scholar-Athlete awards for outstanding scholastic achievement during the spring semester of 1993- 94 To achieve an individual award, one must maintain a 3.50 grade point average during the designat- ed semester. Students recognized were: Track - ‘Daniel Gardner, Mark Johnson, Daniel Tedder, Aaron Ford, Jody Putnam, Bron Smart, Hart Wells, Michelle Fujita, Amanda Halmess, Carrie Hardin, Bethany Jimson, Dorothy Jo,. Golf, tennis teams receive state awards The Kings Mountain High School golf and tennis teams were recently recognized with Pepsi Scholar-Athlete team awards by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association. To achieve the honor, a team must collectively achieve a 3.10 grade point average while partici- pating in the sport during the spring semester of 1993-94. Members of the golf team, which achieved a 3.109 GPA, were Sage Fulton, Chad Huffman, Bradley Leonard, Brian Maxey, Hiroki Nishiyama, Casey Sipe, Dee Stewart and Blair Williams.
