FRIDAY: 3:30 -Parade around the courtsquare in Shelby at Foothills Fling featuring Jeff Gordon's car 24; at 4:30 p.m. a Bike Cop Race; at 5:25 p.m. the Carolina State Bank Criterium, a premier bike race where cyclists form all over the world compete in this annual event. Ocean Boulevard Band will play for the remainder of the evening until 9 p.m. A carnival with rides and a vendor area on Warren Street along with up- town restaurants will be open for food and beverages. 5-8 p.m. - Outdoor Spring Fest at Grover School under sponsorship of Grover PTO. Disney theme and entertain- ment by students. Hot dogs and hamburgers. SATURDAY: 8 a.m. -March of Dimes Walk- a-Thon for Someone You Love at Shelby City Park. 8 a.m.-3 p.m. -Annual Firemen's cookoff, craft and yard sale at the Kings Mountain Walking Track. Proceeds to the Kings Mountain Fire Museum. 8 a.m.-12:30 - Sesame Street workshop for parents and care- givers of young children at Cleveland County Office Building. $15 registration fee in- Birthday MIKAYLA HUMPHRIES Mikayla Humphries Mikayla Anne Humphries, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Humphries of Kings Mountain, celebrated her first birthday on Friday, April 18. A party using the 101 Dalmatian theme was given in her honor at Victory Baptist Church in Gastonia on Saturday, April 19, Attending Mikayla's party were her par- ents, grandparents, great grand- mothers, aunts, uncles, great aunts and great uncles. Mikayla's mother is the for- mer Kristy Braswell of Gastonia. Her grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Braswell of Gastonia and Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Humphries of Kings Mountain. Her great grand- mothers are Laura Sams of Gastonia and Mae Humphries of Kings Mountain. The late great-grandparents are Thomas Humphries and Mr. and Mrs. John Styers of Kings Mountain, and Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Braswell and J.H. Sams of Gastonia. April 18 is a special day for Mikayla's paternal grandpar- ents, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Humphries. In addition to it be- ing the birthday of their first grandchild, it is also their wed- ding anniversary. Mikayla's late great-grandfather, Thomas Humphries, was also born on cludes handbooks and puppets. 10 a.m. - Welcome to Spring, historic home tour, six houses and two churches on Piedmont Ave., Mountain Street, and Gaston Streets in Kings Mountain, open for tour. Washington St., Shelby, and on Sunday at 3 p.m. MONDAY: 6:30- Bethware PTO in the school auditorium. 7:00- Kings Mountain Woman's Club at the clubhouse. Pictorial exhibit honors 12 area women. 8:00- GWU University Community Orchestra in con- certo competition concert at Dover Theatre at Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs. TUESDAY: 9:25 a.m. - Dimensions: Academic Awards Day at Lutz- Yelton Convocation Center at Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs. 12:30- Gold Card Mystery trip departs from Shelby Senior Center at 12:30. No fee for gold card holders. 6:30- Kings Mountain Lions club at Town and Country Restaurant. 7:00- Spring recital and art show for children at Mauney Memorial Library.
