City Manager Jimmy Maney said last week in preparing the 1997-98 city budget that a reor- ganization was underway in some of the departments with hiring of additional employees and some cuts of positions in the budget. Rezoning requests on P&Z agenda Four rezoning requests and a text amendment change are on the agenda for Tuesday's Planning and Zoning Board meeting at 7 p.m. at City Hall. Planning Director Steve Killian said the requests are from citizens who now live in General Business zoned areas on York Road, Highway 74, Slater Street and Oriental Avenue. Killian said none of the re- zoning requests appear to be controversial. BUDGET From 1-A hoc committee studying the pay plan; he said. TR But Councilman Ralph Grindstaff said Council needs to take another look at the poli- cy because it had voted to re- duce by 5 percent each year the city's participation in the de- pendent coverage. "I feel strongly that policy should be in effect each year until the city will no longer be paying any- thing on dependent coverage," he said. Grindstaff also questioned the purchase of 11 new vehicles in one budget year. One of the three new police cars was parked at the front of City Hall for visitors to inspect as they entered the building. Maney said one of the vehicles is a new fire truck and the city will make its first lease purchase in the new year budget. Also in- cluded in the budget are two lease purchase agreements for a commercial truck and residen- tial carts for the sanitation de- partment, the purchase of a used commercial truck and commercial containers for the sanitation” department, and trucks for Parks and Recreation and four service trucks for gas, electric, water and sewer and meter reading.
