JOSEPH TODD STARNES (Ginger Leanne Baity) Baity-Starnes First Wesleyan Church was the setting June 7 for the wedding of Ginger Leanne Baity and Joseph Todd Starnes. : The Rev. Don Williams officiated the ceremony .. for which Lynn Echols was pianist and Eric Wright was soloist. : The bride was given in marriage by her stepfa- ther, Dennis Putnam, and her father, Mike Baity. She wore a formal sleeveless gown of Candlelight silk designed with a fully-beaded bodice and a long skirt with an attached beaded train. She car- ried a nosegay of white roses and sheer white rib- bon. Heather Baity was her sister's maid of honor. Bridesmaids were the bride's sister, Lauren Baity of Gastonia; Jill Hardin Knox of Morganton, Joy Bowers Greene of Albemarle and Angela Hardin of Grover. See Baity, 2-B. MERCIER Mercier- Clampffer Mr. and Mrs. Doug Mercier of Mount Pleasant announce the engagement of their daughter, Keesha to Todd R. Clampffer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Clampffer of Sugar Land, Texas. The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Betty Mercier of Kings Mountain and the late Jack Mercier. Both the bride-to-be and bridegroom-elect are graduates of Stephen F. Austin State University. The bride-elect is a teacher in the Royal I. S. D., Brookshire, Texas. The future bridegroom is em- ployed by Post Mark Inc., Katy, Texas. The wedding will be an event of June 28 in the Chapel at Tankersley Gardens. Hebb-Fisher Lee Hebb of Zirconia announces the engage- ment of his daughter, Monica Lea, to Stephen Ray Fisher, son of Ray and Jackie Fisher of Kings Mountain. The bride-elect is a graduate of East Henderson ; High School and is a May 1997 graduate of Appalachian State University at Boone and is cur- rently teaching at Kings Mountain Middle School. The bridegroom-to-be is a 1993 graduate of Kings Mountain HIgh School and is attending Appalachian State University. He will student teach at King Mountain Middle School in the fall. VOLUNTEER BRUNCH - The Center will honor its volun- teers at its annual Volunteer Brunch Saturday, June 21, at 11 a.m. at the Center. Anyone who has volunteered during the past year but did not turn in their hours or get an invitation should contact the Center im- mediately. OPERATION COOL OFF - Operation Cool Off is under way. The program makes fans available for loan to older adults in the Kings Mountain School District. The fans can be kept until September 30 or as soon as it cools off. Go by the Center or call Carolyn Bell be- tween 9 am.-3 p.m. to obtain a fan. Fans will be issued on a first come, first served basis as long as they last. BEAUTIFICATION PRO- JECT - The Senior Center hopes to start a beautification project for the grounds surrounding the center. A local landscapter will help determine what bush- es, trees and plants are needed in each location. The project is under way now and will con- tinue into the fall months. Any individual or company interest- ed in making a donation to help purchase plants should contact Sharon Eaker at the Center. Volunteers are also needed to help with the planting. ADVANCE DIRECTIVES WORKSHOP - The Center and Cleveland Home Health will sponsor an Advance Directives Workshop June 25 from 2-4 p.m. at the Center. Topics include "What is a Health Care Power of Attorney?," "What is a Living Will?," and "What Are Advance Directives and Who Needs Them and Why?" The workshop is free. IB JACOB SIPES Community Calendar Lauren Myers Lauren Nicole Myers, daugh- ter of Steve and Pam Myers of Gastonia, celebrated her first birthday Wednesday, June 4. Lauren enjoyed a Mickey and Minnie Mouse birthday party at Humpty Dumpty Day Care with all her nursery friends. A family cookout was held Saturday at Lauren's home in Gastonia. Lauren's mother is the former Pam Morrow. Grandparents are Larry and JoAnn Morrow of Kings Mountain and Ernest and Betty Myers of Thomasville. Jacob Sipes Jacob Hunter Sipes, son of Guy H. and Raye Ann Sipes of 627 Bell Road, Kings Mountain, was one year old June 13. He celebrated with a party with family and friends on June 14. Grandparents are Tex and Carolyn Sipes of Kings Mountain, and Jane Wise of Raleigh. Great-grandparents are Carr Booker of Raleigh and Bertha Styers of Kings Mountain.
