Herald/Times March 4, 1999 Church News 16-year-old pianist to perform at First Baptist, Kings Mountain Joseph Backer, a 16-year-old pianist, will be in concert Sunday, March 7 at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Kings Mountain. The public is invited. Pastor Chip Sloan said, “It is our hope to make each Sunday evening at First Baptist Church an enjoyable time with the Lord The Joseph Backer concert is cer- tainly one of these special Sunday evenings.” At the age of one, Joseph was playing “Amazing Grace” with two hands. By age 21/2, he already knew over 100 songs. At age 4, he be- gan lessons in classical piano. In 1995, at age 13, he passed the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music “Test for Performance” with distinction. Most recently, he was a finalist in the concerto competition at Brevard Music Center. He has also per- formed at the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, CA. “At age 15, Joseph dedicated his life and talent to the Lord,” Rev. Sloan said. “He is committed to serving and exalting Christ through his music. Joseph plays from the heart. You can feel his love for the Lord through his music. His sacred concerts contain music which can be easily recognized and appreciated by all ages, but he plays them with an added flair and excitement that could only be accom- plished by a gifted pianist.” : OUASE ~~ kn ~- ee O I ~ BACKER Lenten service Wednesday at KM Baptist The downtown churches and the Kings Mountain Ministerial Association invite the public to participate in this year’s midday community Lenten worship services and luncheons each East Side Baptist Church ~ York Road ~ Kings Mountain LEATHERMAN AFRICAN METHODIST EPISCOPAL 610 E.
