The bride-to-be is a graduate of Bessemer City High School and attended Gardner-Webb University. She received certification for medical coding at Physician Reimbursement Strategies. She is a member of American Academy of Professional Coders and is employed by Gastonia DR. KIMBERLY KAYE HAGANS LARRY CABEL JAMES II Hagans-James Dorothy Elkins of Bessemer City announces the engagement of her daughter, Dr. Kimberly Kaye Hagans, to Larry Cabel James II of Burlington. Kimberly is a graduate of Kings Mountain Senior High School. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science from North Carolina State University. She received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1997. Dr. Hagans is employed at Cottonwood Veterinary Hospital in Shelby. Larry is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Larry James of Burlington. He is a graduate of Eastern Alamance High School. He received a Bachelor of Science in Surgical Associates, P.A. The bridegroom-to-be is a graduate of Bessemer City High School and Southern Wesleyan University. He is employed by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. A May 22, 1999 wedding is planned. Nuclear Engineering and a Master’s degree in Nuclear Engineering from North Carolina State University. He is a member of Alpha Nu Sigma, a nuclear engineer honor society. He is employed by Duke Engineering and Services as a Nuclear Engineer in Charlotte. The couple plans an April 17 wedding. KM Woman's Club winners named The Kings Mountain Woman's Club recently an- nounced the winners in their lit- erary, music, and art competi- tions. Students at Kings Mountain High School, the win- ners were in many cases also top scorers at the District and State level. Winner in the poetry compe- tition was 10th grader Adam Hall. Senior Elise Mayes took top local honors for her essay. Short story winner was 12th grader Paula Mercer. Fellow 12th grader Jennifer Inman was also a poetry winner. In the art category, senior Bobby Patat won the first prize for his dye craft batik wallhang- ing. Patat also won first place in the District and will go to the State level. Photographer Tiffany Ely took first place for her black and white shots at both the local and District level. In the painting category, Rhyne Jones took first place for his work at the local level. In the musical category, vo- calist and weight lifter Jenny Goforth won at the local and District level. Jenny will also go to the State Art Festival in Winston-Salem. She has been accepted at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee where she will major in performing arts. Kings Mountain High School senior Meline Paula Miller, daughter of Darryl and Vivera Blanton, won the Kings Mountain Woman's Club Sallie Southall Cotten Scholarship of $500 for 1999. President Betty Gamble and the Club chose Miller because of her high scholarship abilities, and her commitment to suc- ceed. Academically, Miller has taken the most difficult curricu- lum offered and participated in a wide variety of activities as well as worked part time. She also tutors 3rd graders and was a Junior Volunteer. At Kings Mountain High School, she is a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club, and has been named to Who's Who. She has participat- ed in musicals each of the past four years in school. She is ac- tive in the French Club, FCA, Students Against Violence Everywhere, Tennis, and Key Club. She was president of the Bible Club. in, the 10th grade and was 4 répresentative to SPO in the 11th grade. She also participated in the Senior Play. After graduation, Meline plans to attend Gardner-Webb University. Will Hendricks named DAR Good Citizen William Holden Hendricks, son of Dr. and Mrs. Paul Hendricks Jr., was recognized as the DAR Good Citizen for Kings Mountain High School at the February 23 meeting of the Colonel Frederick Hambright Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution.
