Bell Scouting ‘Banquet will be held April 22 at 7 pm. at Kings Mountain's First Baptist Church. Highlight of the event will be the presentation of the second annual Bell Scouting Award to an individual from the commu- nity who has contributed great- ly to scouting in the Kings Mountain /Cleveland County area. The first recipient of the Bell Scouting Award was Otis Falls Jr., who served many years as the Boy Scout leader at Saint Matthew’s Lutheran Church. Saint Matthew's was recog- nized for its 90 years of service to scouting in Kings Mountain. Boy Scout Troop 91 was orga- nized prior to the establishment of the Boy Scouts in America and received its charter from Sir Robert Baden-Powell in 1908. Rev. Bell was the pastor who organized the first troop. He was pastor of Saint Matthew's from 1905-1918. Special recognition this year will go to First Baptist Church for its continuous service to scouting in Kings Mountain.
