was also pre-
ceded in
death by his brothers, Jay
Randolph Sperling and B.
Edwin Sperling; and his sister,
Inez Childers Swanson.
He was a member of East
Baptist Church, Charlotte. He
was a retired construction con-
tractor and was a veteran of the
U.S. Army with service during
the Korean War.
He is survived by his sons,
Chriss Sperling, Jack Sperling
and Scott Sperling, all of
Mooresville, and Randy
Sperling of Denver; daughters,
Jean Miller and Kimberly
Sperling of Charlotte, Ann
Sperling of Creedmoor, Lori
Vreeland of Delray Beach, FL,
and Stacey Monroe of Concord;
brothers, Calvin Sperling of
Burlington and Bill Sperling Jr.
of Lincolnton; sisters, Edith

ceded in death by her daughter,
Phyliss E. Johnston.
She was a homemaker and
member of Glen Burnie Baptist
Church.

homemaker. She was a member
of St. Andrew’s Episcopal
Church and was instrumental
with her husband in beginning;
St. Barnabus Episcopal Church.
She was a member of the :
Greensboro Euterpe and its
Music Teachers Group. She was
active in the Historical Book
Club of North Carolina.
She was a graduate of the
New England Conservatory.
Prior to her marriage she
taught public school music in
the Raeford and Durham City
Schools. After her marriage and
moye to Greensboro she began
a long career‘of teaching pian®
and‘elocution.
Her dedication to preserving
her family’s land surrounding
the pinnacle of Kings Mountain
contributed to the protection of
the area as a North Carolina
state park two weeks ago.
She is survived by her daugh-
ter, Monette Weaver Wood,
M.D., of Richmond, VA and her
husband, Roger Enoch Wood,
D.D.S.; son, Reagan Hale
Weaver of Raleigh and his wife,
Ardath Goldstein Weaver; sis-
ters, Mrs. William H. McElwee
and Mrs. Robert E. Lewis of

mandatory during the month of
January.
Failure to comply with city
ordinance of either current ra-
bies vaccination or city dog tags
will result in a $25 citation per

Jeanine Fisher, former Bible
teacher at Kings Mountain High
School, will lead a Bible study
each Tuesday night from 7-8
p-m. at Grace United Methodist
Church, Cleveland Avenue,
Kings Mountain.
Mrs. Fisher has taught Bible
in the school system and in area
churches for 40 years.

“Another point of emphasis in
2001 for Kings Mountain
schools will be to maintain the
high end of year ABCs state
testing scores that have become
a tradition.
“We will continue to stress
steady progress on the state
testing scores,” said Allen.
‘Board member Shearra Miller
describes the coming year as
“scary but exciting.” One of her
top goals for 2001 is to keep the
school system’s momentum go-
ing in the face of change.
“Finding a new or interim
school superintendent will be a
priority,” Miller said. “As will
be moving forward with the
new grade 5-6 school and reso-
. lution of the merger question.

expectations we have in our
schools.”
