‘Kimyata Brandése Brown and Maurice
Lashawn Tate have announced their plans to be
married on August 11, 2001.
* Brandy is the daughter of Tanya Brown and
the late Robert Camp. She is a graduate of
Kings-Mountain High School and Dudley
Cosmetology University. She is a licensed cos-
metologist and is a full-time student at Central
Piedmont Community College in Charlotte
where she is studying Funeral Science
Education. She is a‘€htistian Dance Instructor
at Jarte Campbell Studio.
Maurice is the sory of Cynthia Smith and
Johnny Adams. He is a graduate of Bessemer
City High School and the University of North
Carolina at Charlotte, where he majored in
Business Management. He is Associate Minister
at Miracle Tabernacle Ministries.
Brandy and Maurice are the founders and
presidents of United Ministries Association in
Kings Mountain.

Valerie Anne Jackson of Kings Mountain and
Peyton Randolph Watson of Charlotte have an-
nounced their plans to be married on
September 1.
The bride-to-be is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Joe Bumgardner of Kings Mountain and
Marvin Jackson of Shelby. She is a graduate of
UNC Chapel Hill with a BA in Biology. She is a
graduate of Presbyterian School of Radiology.
The bridegroom-to-be is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Tom W. Watson of Charlotte. He is a grad-
uate of Elon College with a BA in Economics.

Jacqueline Elizabeth Canipe and Albert
Youssef Cordahi were married Saturday, July
28 at Caldwell Memorial Presbyterian Church
in Charlotte. Rev. Carl Dumford officiated the 2
p.m. ceremony.
Music was provided by cellist Alan Black
and classical guitarist Bob Teixeira.
The bride was escorted down the aisle by her
father. Bridesmaids were Angelique Cordahi of
Greenville and Alexandra Cordahi of
Charlotte, sisters of the bridegroom, Emily
Hanna of Tallahassee, FL, and junior brides-
maid Kaki Bowman of Polkville, cousin of the
bride. Maid of honor was Debra Bright of
Columbia, SC.
The bridegroom chose his father as his best
man. Groomsmen were Alexander Canipe and
Brent Canipe of Kings Mountain, brothers of
the bride. Ring bearer was Michael Canipe of
Cherryville, nephew of the bride.
Jacqueline is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Richard M. Canipe of Kings Mountain. She is
the granddaughter of Mrs. Betty Mercier and
the late Jack Mercier of Kings Mountain. She is
a 1997 graduate of the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill and is a graduate stu-
dent at the North Carolina School of the Arts in
Winston-Salem and a free lance cellist. :
Albert is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph
Cordahi of Charlotte. He is the grandson of Mr.
and Mrs. Robert Nammour of Beirut, Lebanon
“and the late Mr. and Mrs. Albert Cordahi of
Byblos, Lebanon. He is a student at the
University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents
hosted a reception at 1901 Park Street in the
historic Elizabeth section of Charlotte.
After a honeymoon in Montreal, Quebec, the
couple will be at home in Winston-Salem.

will present a piano recital of classical Christian
‘music Wednesday, August 8 at 7 p.m. in the
church sanctuary. A reception will follow in the
fellowship hall.

Resurrection Lutheran
B A Mother’s Morning Out program is being
planned for the 2001-2002 school year. An orien-
tation meeting will be held Thursday, August 2

director and lead teacher. Anne Gamble is the
teacher.

The bride-to-be is a graduate of Kings
Mountain High School. She received a BSBA at
Western Carolina University, and is employed
by Cross Automation.
The bridegroom-to-be is a graduate of
Garinger High School and attended Central
Piedmont Community College. He is employed
by Estes Express Lines.

Deadline for information and articles is 12
noon on the Monday immediately following
the event. Items received after that date may be
deemed too late for publication and refused.
When holidays or other reasons make it nec-
essary for the paper to publish a day early the
deadline is Friday at 12 noon.
There is no charge for articles. However,
there is a $5 preparation fee for birthday pic"
tures for ages 0-5. Forms, which must’be signed +=
by the parents, are available at the reception-
ist’s desk. Regular advertising rates apply for
birthday articles and pictures for persons ages
6 and above. There is a $10 preparation fee for
wedding, anniversary and engagement pic-
tures. Wedding forms are also available at the
receptionists desk.

H Dr. John D. Mauney Jr. of Cherryville will be-
gin serving as Interim Pastor on Sunday, August
Dr. Mauney is a graduate
of Lenoir-Rhyne College and
Lutheran Theological
Southern Seminary. He was
ordained in 1943 by the
North Carolina Synod, EL-
CA.
Aftet two years as pastor
of Mt. Olive Lutheran
Church in Hickory, he was
called to St. James Lutheran
Church in Fayetteville in
1945 where, for 32 years, he
served military personnel at Fort Bragg.
He was awarded an honorary Degree of Doctor
of Divinity by Lenoir-Rhyne College in 1972.

Lutheran students at Western Carolina University
for five years, he retired from the pastorate in
1982.
In 1985 he was the organizing pastor of
Messiah of the Mountains Lutheran Church in
Burnsville. Since retirement he has served as
Interim Pastor of Lutheran congregations in the
area 12 time.s
He is married to the former Mary Emma Cobb
of Cherryville. They have three sons, a daughter,
seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchil- *
dren.
St. Matthew's Lutheran is located at 201 North
Piedmont Avenue. Sunday morning worship is at
11 a.m. Holy Communion is celebrated the first
and third Sunday of each month.
