The Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) is a federally-funded pro- gram that provides a one- time cash payment to help eligible families supplement their heating bills. Interested in cardio- vascular testing? The Kings Mountain YMCA will pro- vided answers Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. during its third annual health fair. in the Food Stamp Information System as of September 30. These house- holds will receive an auto- matic payment for heating costs if they meet all LIEAP guidelines. Other Food Assistance households that are ineligi- ble for an automatic pay- ment will receive a letter advising them to go to the Cleveland County Department of Social Services to apply during the ‘application period. Last year 2,905 households were assisted with an aver- age payment of $76.44. The amounts of the checks are unknown until all applica- tions are taken. Checks are mailed out in February. In order to be eligible, families must meet an income test, be responsible for the house- hold’s heating bill, be a U.S. citizen and household's income cannot exceed $2,200. The monthly income limit for a family of four is $1,687. For more information, call the Department of Social Services at 487-0661. Burning permits available at store Village Store and Grill at Highway 216 and Goforth Road, north of Kings Mountain, has been author- ized by the Division of Forest Resources to issue burning permits. The free burning permits are required to burn brush, grasses and other natural materials. Burning permits are not valid for burning rubbish and garbage, which is prohibited by county ordi- nance. Haunted Hayride in Boiling Springs The annual Bar H Haunted Hayride will be held October 24, 25, 31 and Fair set at YMCA The free fair includes body fat percentage, flexibil- ity, muscle strength and car- diovascular testing. A nutri- tionist will be on hand to answer questions. New cycle bikes will be demonstrated. A group fit- ness cycle class is scheduled for January using these bikes. Visitors may sign up for a December blood drive and for flu shots. The shots are given at a later date. A representative from New Balance shoes will test feet pressure points and advise participants on best shoe styles. Discounted New Balance shoes and insoles will be available. Free sign ups for YMCA memberships will be offered. Last year’s health fair attracted approximately 125 participants. “We really had a good time last year,” said wellness director Rosemary Suess. Baptists set 153rd fall meeting The Greater Cleveland County Baptist Association (formerly Kings Mountain Baptist Association will hold its 153rd fall biannual meet- ing Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 27-28. The theme is Vision Becomes Reality. The Monday evening ses- sion will begin at 6:45 at Double Shoals Baptist Church in Shelby. New pas- tors and staff persons will be introduced. The revised by- laws for the new Association Model will be presented for adoption. Guest speaker will be Rev. Howard Mcnamara from Schooley’s Mountain, NJ. The Tuesday afternoon session will begin at 2:45 at Zion Baptist Church. The Association budget for 2004 will be presented for adop- tion. Miscellaneous reports will be given including Assocation staff reports. The moderator’s message will be presented by Dr. Marvin Gobble, pastor of Zoar Baptist Church. The Tuesday evening ses- sion, also.at Zion Baptist PURPOSE From 10A connection of small group study. Pastor Chamber's wife Stephanie Chambers has discovered how important the discipline of regular Bible study means. She says she will always want the fel- lowship and chance to grow that comes from small group study. Through this and similar classes, Chambers has discovered she can speak to large groups about Christ. “I used to stand back,” she said. : The weekly Bible study begins with praise and wor- ship. Then the women break into small groups. The study ends with everyone gather- ing back in the sanctuary. Sullens ends with a 30- minute lesson. Childcare for all age chil- dren is provided for free. The Bible study is open to anyone, not just Christian Freedom members. Participants are welcome to join at anytime. The study lasts to May 11. Book cost $24 for the remainder of the year. The session will include worship music, a report on the Association’s new Missions and Ministry Point building progress in Belwood, and a presentation on the 2004 Association mis- sion trip destinations. The annual sermon will be deliv- ered by Dr. Tony Fulbright, pastor of First Baptist Church, Grover. The session will end with an installation service for the new moderator and vice- moderator. November 1 at the Bar H Arena in Boiling springs . The event will begin at dark (approximately 7:30 p-m.) Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for kids 12 and under.
