October 23, 2003 The Kings Mountain Herald EE ER te ENGAGEMENT Mrs. Nathan Allen Porter (Kimberly Nicole Carter) Porter-Carter Kimberly Nicole Carter of Chesapeake, VA and Nathan Allen Porter of Virginia Beach, VA exchanged marriage vows September 13, 2003 at Indian River Baptist Church in Chesapeake, Va. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas P. Carter of Chesapeake, VA. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Tim Porter of Virginia Beach, VA. He is the grandson of the late Earl and Juanita Erwood Scism of Kings Mountain. He is a graduate of Old Dominion. The bride was given in marriage by her father, Thomas P. Carter. Maid of Honor was Annamarie McCoy of Virginia Beach, VA. Bridesmaids were Lisa Rittenburger, Candra Kluck, Susan Walters and Jenny Wheaton, all of Virginia Beach, VA. Best man was Michael Porter and grooms- men were Ryan Jefferies, Bryan Jefferson, Vic Pokorski and Chris Hazzio, all of Virginia Beach, VA. The bride’s parents hosted the wedding reception at Shifting Sands Beach Club in Virginia Beach. The groom's parents hosted the rehearsal dinner at The Steinhilbers Inn in Virginia Beach. Following a honeymoon in the Caribbean, the couple is at home in Virginia Beach. ALLISON LOGAN KILLIAN STEVEN LAMAR RHYNE Killian-Rhyne Mr. and Mrs. Charles Killian of Stanley announce the engagement of their daughter, Allison Logan Killian, to Steven Lamar Rhyne of Dallas. Allison is the granddaughter of Willene Hall Killian and the late Bill Killian of Stanley and the late Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Allison Logan Jr. of Kings Mountain. She is a graduate of East Gaston High School, Gaston College and a cum laude graduate of the University of North Carolina Charlotte, where she was a member of Golden Key International Honour Society. She is employed by Gaston County Schools at Costner Elementary in Dallas. The prospective bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Rhyne Jr. of Dallas and the grandson of the late Bill Rhyne Sr., the late Hattie Herman Gladden, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Johnson. He is a graduate of North Gaston High School and Gaston College. He is employed by Metso Minerals of Bessemer City. The wedding will take place on December 13, 2003 at Hardin Baptist Church in Dallas. David Baptist Church drop site for Samaritan’s Purse shoeboxes David Baptist Church has Samaritan’s Purse asks picture books, etc. . exclusively for state winners, been designated as the drop- off point in the Kings Mountain area for shoebox- es for this year’s Samaritans Purse “Operation Christmas Child” project. Anyone who lives in the area can drop off their filled shoeboxes at the church at 2003 David Baptist Church Road on the evenings of November 17-21. “It would be greatly appreciated if all of the shoeboxes turned in from our area would be delivered to this spot so that an accu- rate account can be made,” said church member Mark Howell. “These numbers are very beneficial in determin- ing allocations of resources in the future.” - David Baptist has a limit- ed number of shoeboxes still available. PX Be Cee Phage 7A Blanton to compete in NC Teen Pageant Ashley Blanton from Kings Mountain, daughter of Mark and Elaine Blanton, has been selected to participate in the Miss North Carolina Teen USA Pageant, at The High Point Theater and Exhibition Center in High Point on October 24- 25. Each delegate will be judged in swimsuit, evening gown, and personal interview. The winner will represent the Tarheel State in the NBC nationally televised Miss Teen USA Pageant in 2004. Among her many state prizes will be cash, a luxurious fur coat, wardrobe, evening gown, a 14K gold crown ring designed and the opportunity to inter- view with top commercial tal- ent agencies. The most exciting prize is an expense paid trip to the telecast of the Miss Teen USA Pageant where she will compete for the prestigious title of Miss Teen USA 2004 and $150,000 in cash and prizes. Ashley is a junior at Kings Mountain High School where she is a member of the varsity ASHLEY BLANTON football, basketball and competition cheer- leading squads. She has been involved with dance for 14 years at Dance Reflections and works there as a dance instruc- tor. She is also a member of the Kings Mountain High School marching and concert bands, Future Teachers of America, Beta Club, French Club, Key Club, and has been recognized as a member of Who's Who Among American High School Students for several years. She attends Patterson Grove Baptist Church where she is a member and works in the nursery on Sunday mornings. After high school she plans to attend a four-year college and double major in Elementary Education and Accounting with a minor in Business and Finance. Ashley invites everyone to attend Friday's ‘preliminary and Saturday's final competi- tion.
