Team qualifiers were determined by the combined results of all eight SWFH matches this year. The top three teams advanced, and the top three individuals who were not members of qualifying teams also advance to the Regional. Hickory won the team championship with a cumu- lative score of 1171, followed by Crest 1199 and R-S Central 1212. Teams that did not qualify were Fred T. Foard 1231, KM 1252, St. Stephens 1327 and Burns 1524. The top ten individuals made the All-Conference team. They included Kent Copeland of Hickory with a cumulative score 249, Taylor Hines of Hickory 255, Nathan Ward of Hickory 256, Timmy Osteen of R-S 258, Holden Abrams of RS 259, Matt Bradley of Crest 260, Matt Curtis of Crest 260, Russ Putnam of KM 261, Jayson Philbeck of Crest 261, and Miller Lewis of RS 261. Individuals qualifying along with Putnam were Joe Kastelic and Alex Kang of Foard, and Chris Canella of St. Stephens. The Western Regional will be played May 3 at Gaston Municipal. Copeland was named SWEH player of the year and Hickory’s Ben Hale was named coach of the year. Patriots gain tie for league title Kings Mountain Middle School's baseball team shutout Burns 6-0 Tuesday to claim a share of the Tri- County Conference East Division championship. Kings Mountain, Burns and West Lincoln all fin- ished the regular season with 8-2 division records. The Patriots, who were 11-3 overall, have either won or shared the division title each of the past four years. Luke Proctor went the dis- tance on the mound for Monty Deaton’s team, giv- ing up only three hits and striking out eight. Kings Mountain got one hit each from Proctor, Ricky Greene, Brantley Blalock, Jeffry Howell and Justin Heinbach. The Patriots got four of their hits in the first inning when they took a 4-0 lead. They added their final two runs in the third. “It was a good win for us,” said Coach Deaton. “We had been first place each of the last three years, so this was a good way to keep the streak going. We hope to win it again next year.” KM Hall of Fame to meet Monday The Kings Mountain Sports Hall of Fame commit- tee will meet Monday night, May 3 at 7 p.m. at the YMCA. Mounties fourth at Lake Hickory Kings Mountain High's golf team finished fourth in a Southwestern Foothills Conference match Tuesday at Lake Hickory Country Club. Hickory won the 18-hole match with a score of 295, followed by R-S Central 304, Crest 306, KM 309, Fred T. Foard 312, St. Stephens 329 and Burns 387. Russ Putnam led the Mountaineers with a 75, fol- lowed by Sam McGinnis 77, Josh Etters 79 and Alex Dahl 80. Mounties second in River Bend match Kings Mountain High's golfers finished second to host Crest in a three-team golf match Thursday at River Bend. The Chargers shot a 313 to KM’s 328. Burns was third at 365. Russ Putnam of Kings Mountain and Matt Bradley of Crest were co-medalists with a 77. Other KM scores were Sam McGinnis 80, Josh Etters 84 and Alex Dahl 87.
