The American Cancer Society signature fundraiser will be April 28 and 29 at the Kings Mountain munici- pal walking track. ACS staff and local volunteers held a kick-off Monday night at the Patrick Center. “We did phenomenally well last year. Everyone should be proud,” said event co-chairperson Tammy Hogue. She and Tammy White are co-chair- ing this year’s event. The King’s Review chorus from Kings Mountain High School provided entertain- ment and Fatz provided din- ner. Kings Mountain's 2005 Relay’s 39 teams and 90 sur- vivors raised $93,023. The county’s three Relayscom= bined raised the fourth high- est dollar amount in the 75,000 to 99,999 population bracket nationwide. Cleveland County Schools raised $104,000, the most of any school in the multi-state Region 5. Over 650 sur- vivors participated in the county’s three Relays gar- nering the Pack the Track award. The money raised goes Lt toward research, prevention, early detection, education and services for people fac- ing cancer. There will be a Relay for Life Roadshow University for volunteers Monday, Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. at the Patrick Center. Registration will be from 5 to 6 p.m. Dinner will be provided. Training will begin at 6:30 p.m. Registration deadline is today. To register, call 704- 552-6147. Veterans Day events set in Kings Mountain and Shelby There will be a Veteran's Day service and parade Friday, Nov. 11 beginning at 10 a.m. Marchers will assemble and there will be opening ceremonies at 10 a.m. at the Kings Mountain War Memorial at the corner of Mountain Street and Railroad Avenue across the street from the Joy Performance Center. The parade will begin at 10:15 a.m. and proceed down Gold Street to the Veteran's Memorial at Mountain Rest Cemetery. The service there will begin at 10:30 a.m. For additional informa- tion, contact city events coordinator Ellis Noell at 704-730-2103. In Shelby the Cleveland County Veterans Council will hold a service at 11 a.m. at the old courthouse or in the event of rain, inside the gym at Shelby City Park. In October they held a car show fundraiser for Knox at the Cleveland Mall. Thirty vehicle enthusiasts entered and Rick Campbell took best of show with his lime green Civic. Extreme Kustomz of Shelby, who sponsors the club, sponsored the show. The business is owned by David Jackson and Eric Hess. Hess also contributed his talent as a DJ. Knox, who underwent chemotherapy, radiation and three surgeries, now shows no sign of cancer. He is majoring in criminal justice at Cleveland Community College and already has a degree in auto body repair from CCC. Knox graduated from Kings Mountain High School in 2004. The club will sponsor another fundraiser car show Nov. 26 from 9 a.m. to 5 p-m. for Shelby missionaries ANDIE L.
