Battleground Avenue. “My husband Jeff and I bought it as investment Popaty and have been busy renovating for some time and plan to “show it off to the community as we host the Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours Aug. 18,” said Wright. Wright has posted a “for sale” sign in front of the property - located at the first stop light as you come into Kings Moun- tain on S. Battleground - an eye catching makeover of a vin- tage property. She is among several Main Street businesses that are using facade grants from the City of Kings Moun- / tain to jump start major renovation projects. Eyeing the two-story, former Moss mansion as a real es- tate office, the Wrights applied for a $5,000 incentive grant from the City of Kings Mountain for the former residential property rezoned by the city to conditional use to allow a business in the Central Business District. Wright currently leases her Coldwell Bankers Mountain View office on E. King Street, the former doctor’s office be- side Cup and Saucer, from the City of Kings Mountain. She credits a former owner of the house, Bernice Chap- pell, for major interior remodeling and transformation of the house when Bernice and Larry Chappell lived in the resi- dence and then sold it to a family who has since relocated. “Since I am in the house selling business and want to pro- mote downtown beautification, I grabbed the chance to buy the house,” said Wright, who obviously researched a Victo- rian-era theme in the paint colors. Mr. Wright, who works in the technology department for the City of Shelby, got excited too and after work and on weekends the two spent hours painting the interior of the house. They hired painters to work the outside, including the roof, and also replaced the roof on an outside building with a matching tin roof. The spacious outside building had been used by a previous owner for a small business. Wright said incentives from the city are appreciated and stimulate new business in the community.
