KINGS MOUNTAIN - Ernest Daniel
Valentine, 73, resident of 803 Princeton
Drive, died Aug. 30, 2012 at Kings Moun-,
tain Hospice House. He was born in
Cleveland County to the late O.M.
“Shorty” Valentine and Gertrude Bratton
Valentine. Mr. Valentine attended Boyce
Memorial ARP Church and retired from
Fiber Industries in Earl. He served in
Korea and Germany while serving in the
U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria Hull
Valentine of Kings Mountain; son, Todd
Hughes of Kings Mountain; brothers,
Mearl Valentine of Kings Mountain and
Gerald Valentine of Kings Mountain; and,
two grandchildren, Caleb Hughes and Cai-
lyn Hughes.
A funeral service was held at 2 p.m.
Saturday, Sept.’ 1, 2012 at Boyce Memo-
rial ARP Church. Interment followed at
Mountain Rest Cemetery in Kings Moun-
tain.
The family received friends Friday
evening at Harris Funeral Home in Kings
Mountain.

versity Hospital,
Durham, NC. ' Born
in attley, SC, he is the husband of
Melba Wingo Queen and a son of the late
Drayton and Joyce Brown Queen. He
was the former owner of Queen’s Lawn
Service and was formerly-associated with
Fiber Industries and Kemet Electronics in
Shelby, NC. He was a member of First
Baptist Church of Blacksburg where he
served as a Deacon. “Rudy” truly loved
music. He was a member of the church
choir, a member of The Master's Quar-
tet and a member of The Messengers. He
‘ was a member of the Gaffney Indians
Football Chain Crew for many years.
"In addition to his loving wife, Melba,
he is survived by two daughters - Deanna
Q. Oliver and husband, Michael, of Azle,
TX; and Beth Millard of Grover, NC; four
grandchildren - Kenneth Oliver and wife,
Janice, of Raeford, NC, Rachael Oliver,
Austin, TX, David Oliver and Seth Oliver
both of Azle, TX; one great-grandchild -
Faith Oliver of Raeford, NC; two broth-
ers - Terry Queen and wife, Janet, of
Gaffney, SC; and Frankie Queen and
wife, Sybil, of Gaffney, SC; one sister -
Elizabeth Allen of Gaffney, SC; and two
sisters-in-law- Beverley Queen and Con-
nie Queen both of Gaffney, SC. In addi-
tion to his parents, he is preceded in death
by three brothers - James “Dooley”
Queen, Lizzie Queen and Jack Queen;
and two sisters - Norma Gilfillian and
Peggy Davis. *
The family received friends Tuesday
evening from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at First
Baptist Church of Blacksburg.
A Celebration of Life Service was held
Wednesday, August 29, 2012, 11 a.m. at
First Baptist Church of Blacksburg, with
Revs. Derrick McAbee and Scott Ham-
mett officiating. Burial was in Clingman
Memorial Gardens. At other times, the
family will be at the home.
Nephews served as active pallbearers.
Members of The Master’s Quartet and
The Messengers served as Honorary Pall-
bearers.

ents, she was also preceded in death by
her brother, Carl West, and sister, Bobbie
Campbell. She was a former employee of
Community Cash for over years.
Surviving are her husband of 40 years,
Terry Hipp of Kings Mountain;. sons,
David Burrell of Greer, SC and Jerry Hipp
of Inman, SC; daughter, Susan Burrell
Johnsonbaugh and husband, Mike of
Kings Mountain; brother, Frank West and
wife, Nancy of Lake Murray, SC; sister,
Eleanore Hipp and husband, James, of
Gaffney, SC; eight grandchildren; Crissie

Christian Freedom Baptist Church in
Kings Mountain. Rev. Mike Chambers of-
ficiated and interment was in Little Moun-
tain Baptist Church Cemetery in Welford,
SC at 6:30 p.m. :
The family received friends one hour
before the funeral service in the sanctuary
of Christian Freedom Baptist Church.
