iB Wednesday, December 17, 2014 The Kings Mountain Herald | www.kmherald.com Clark leads Limestone in passing Kings Mountain fresh- man quarterback Jonathan Clark was the offensive leader for the first-year Limestone Saints in the re- cently-completed football season. Clark broke the starting lineup in the third game of the season and finished the year with 1,419 yards passing and 10 touchdowns. The Saints finished 3-8. Clark’s best game was against Kentucky Wes- leyan, when he hit 21 of 34 passes for 317 yards and three touchdowns in a 43-41 Limestone victory. For the year he hit 121 of 206 passes. Other notes on former Mountaineers: Cedric Thompson is a backup inside receiver for East Carolina’s Pirates, whose regular season is complete but have an up- coming bowl game. Thomp- son has played in three games and has two catches for 10 yards... Tim Hines had five catches for 32 yards in five games for the Davidson Wildcats. Hines missed many games the past two seasons with injuries... Freshman defensive line- man Chaz Gamble played in six games for North Caro- lina Wesleyan. He had eight total tackles, including five solos... Redshirt sophomore Ed Hopper played in nine games for UNC Pembroke. Hehad’ three unassisted tackles and 17 assists. He had one sack and two tack- les for loss. Ed Blackburn was a back-up receiver and spe- cial teams player for the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears, who were ranked #3 in the na- tion and won their first ten games before falling to Valdosta State 23-21 in the second round of the national tournament... Kings Mountain fresh- man James Tillman is off to a good start for the Cape Fear Community College basketball team. Tillman has started one game during the first ten and is averaging 6.8 points and 6.7 rebounds per game... Senior guard Brian Brown is averaging 9.9 points per game for the VMI Keydets, who are now play- ing in the Southern Confer- ence... Mountaineers sweep Burns in SMAC twinbill Kings Mountain High’s basketball teams swept county rival Burns in a SMAC 2A/3A doubleheader Tuesday night at Donald L. Parker Gymnasium. The Lady Mountaineers placed three players in dou- ble figures in a 62-51 win that improved their record to 2-0 in the SMAC and 5-1 overall. The Mountaineers finished fast and ended fast in defeating the Bulldogs 57-38 to even their confer- ence record at 1-1 and their overall mark at 3-3. : ‘Both teams led all the way but had to put on a run at the end of the games to secure the victories. The Lady Mountaineers led 31-17 at halftime and 49-31 going into the fourth quarter. Burns rallied and came within seven points before the KM gals made some big plays on both of- fense and defense to put the game on ice. Senior Tiffani Thomp- son led the scoring with ‘16 points. Kelsey Farmer added 15 and Shaniya Portee 13. The Mountaineers built an early 7-0 lead while hold- ing the Bulldogs scoreless for the first three minutes of the game. Jacob Skidmore’s three-pointer from the cor- ner at the buzzer had KM on top 21-10 at the quarter break. Neither team could mount much offense to start the second quarter. They are juniors Dre Bell and Jake Merchant and seniors Graham Keeter, Tico Crocker, Xavier Johnson, Shawn Adams and Julian Coulter. The Mountaineers tied for third in the SMAC with R-S Central, which also placed seven on the All-Confer- ence team. SMAC and state champion Crest led in All-Conference choices with nine players chosen; and the Chargers also took four of the five excellence awards. Tre Harbison was the offensive player of the year, Omar Brooks the defensive player of the year, Alex Trejo kicker of the year and Mark Barnes coach of the year. East Burke’s Ryan Newell was specialist of the year. Crest All-SMAC picks were Omar Brooks, Chris Willis, Jaleel Feaster, Aaron Ramseur, Malik Hopper, Dom- inique Roseboro, Willie Green II, Tre Harbison and Chris Jones. Shelby was represented by Clay Huskey, Chad Reid, Demerio Houston, Garrion Addison, RJ George, Jayden Borders, Dax Hollifield and Chavon Miller. Burns players selected were Zack Leslie, Teriq James, Kyle Carroll, BJ Hopper and Scooter Colburn. Others on the team were: RS Central — Ramon Rodrigeuz, Trey Clark, Matt Atchley, Devin Adell, Eli Sipman, Kaleb Hines and Ivan Gutierrez. ; East Rutherford — Calvin Camp, Carlos Cureton, Saibyn Ruff, Micah Deyton and Jarvis Hutchins. East Burke — Ryan Newell, Brandon Clark and Mike Stillwell. Chase — Bruce Squires and Zach An- derson. Draughn — Kevin White and Logan Cline. If they win, they will play for the champion- ship Thursday. The undefeated wrestling team was scheduled to host #4 Crest Tuesday at 4 p.m. The winner of the match will meet the winner of the #2 Burns-#3 West Lincoln match Thursday at 4 p.m. If KM defeats Crest, that match will be at Kings Mountain. The volleyball team, which finished fourth, was scheduled to play East Lin- coln away yesterday. The winner of that match will play the winner of the #2 R-S Central-#4 North Lin- coln match. If KM won that game, it would play on the road Thursday. Final wrestling stand- ings: KM 10-0, Burns 9-1, West Lincoln 8-2, Crest 7-3, Shelby 6-4, East Lincoln 5-5, Lincolnton 4-6, R-S Central 3-7, North Lincoln 2-8, East Rutherford 1-9, Chase 0-10.
